Course Handicap Wrong

Disappointed to find out that even with my new S50, Garmin still calculates the wrong Course Handicap for almost every course I play.  According to the user manual "Select Index/Slope to enter the player's Handicap Index® to calculate a course handicap for the player".  The course handicap calculation is universal under WHS as HCPI x Slope/113 + CR - PAR.  Either Garmin is not using this calculation or it is not using the correct course information.  For most courses I have played, the Garmin calculated Course Handicap is 1 higher than it should be.

Can you please tell my why my Garmin is not able to make this calculation correctly and if there is any intention to finally fix this?

  • So I've worked out the problem.  If I use the Garmin Golf App to set up a round, I can see the Course Rating and Slope for the tees I want to play.  I just checked this for the courses I have played and the data is wrong for almost every course.  Garmin is clearly not updating course information as this data is very out of date, or is it using an unofficial source of data, which would be even worse.

I play almost exclusively in Germany.  Can you please update your database with the latest official Germany course data

  • If you notice the slope or rating are showing incorrect compared to the rating that the golf course has published, you can report any corrections needed through our golf course report form linked here: https://www.garmin.com/forms/golfcourses/ or through https://www.garmin.com/de-DE/forms/golfcourses/ (Germany)

Once the report is submitted, our team will work on updating our system and course maps to reflect any corrections needed from the report submitted and you will receive an email once the updates containing the changes have been made available.

  • Thanks Cody.  I've submitted some updates, but honestly the information on every course near me is wrong.  My local club has 3 courses, and the CR and Slope for every course and every teebox is wrong.  Similar for most in the region.  It would take me hours to fill each one out in this online form.  All of this information is available from official sources, and Garmin does not need to contact each club individually for it.  So why doesn't Garmin simply contact the German Golf Association (DGV), or PC Caddie the company that manages the official online scorecards, who have all this information and get it properly?

  • We have internal processes for confirming the ratings we have listed which verifies through official sources.

As often may occur, if that information changes or any other information changes with the course...we need the info reported.

43,000+ courses are in our system for golf maps and there is not a universal method of automating a notification from the course to 3rd parties like us when a course makes a change...or if their rating changes.

Once Garmin is aware of changes for the courses we offer, we implement those changes in our system, and users receive the updates to the courses individually from the Garmin Golf app or they update through Garmin Express as we release our bundled course map changes that accumulate through the year for our three worldwide course map regions.
