Did Garmin abandon the R50?

Dear Garmin Team,

as a client, I am asking myself if I may banked on the wrong product.

Garmin has been competely silent about updates or a product roadmap for the R50. We all invested in a device with a hefty - but justified - price tag. However, the justification crumbles in case the product will remain in its current state.

We all know, the software needs refinements and a couple of additional features to make use of the powerful and (as I see it) extremely well engineered hardware platform.

Sensible Feature Requests have been made in this forum, to just name a few: Improvement of the Pratice Range with a configurable flag distance, Club Gapping, maybe Low Point as a new data point, etc, etc.

When I look over to the R10 forum, I see people there share similar concerns to the ones of the R50 users. Also they are awaiting updates and improvements.

I am of the opinion that if Garmin wants to become a serious player in the launch monitor market, it needs to become more vocal to its users.

Garmin, please don't let us down and give us some comfort that we own a product which has a future.

Thank you,

Christian

  • someone needs to jailbreak the sucker and just take the company's development team out of the picture

  • Do we know if the Jan 20, 2026, update for r10 users will eventually be released to r50 users? Seems very odd to me that Garmin now offers better graphics for the $399 unit than their $5,000 unit. I did download the new Home Tee Hero app and the enhanced courses… they are nice!! I am praying these are made available to r50 users in short order.

  • I think it’s a fantastic product but I agree the software needs some improvement. I’m sure it’s been mentioned but.

    - it would be nice to have an option to skip to certain holes of different courses efficiently and play them over and over if I desire and want to try a different strategy. -

    - I’ve had some slow roll glitches as well where I’d hit a sloped fairway and the ball slow rolls sideways from one rough to the other,(small gripe but annoying).
    - Would be nice to enhance the distance driving range and driving ranges in general in terms graphics and depth. You can’t really see the targets on the screen , maybe add depth, larger targets and poles, field goal, elevated tees to look down or have elevated driving range greens…something to spice it up. Heck add a mountain or two in the background.

    - unlimited mulligan time so you don’t have to jump to hit the button in time

    - power the usb c port to power wireless hdmi dongle to a usb A power bank isn’t requried

    - add live interactive leaderboards to the competition mode instead of simply saying where we placed

    - graphical improvements would always be welcome

    - adding a random round mode where I can play a random mixup of championship or par 3 holes in 9 or 18 hole format

    - if the support continues would be cool to have saved data the shows if I’m improving, regressing or where I need to practice more

    - would be cool to add gallery or grandstands to the championship courses

  • Yeah... same Q... I was hoping to DL it last night, and my R50 still says 4.6 is the most recent software... I would think Garmin would put its weight behind this unit to really have something that beats all competitors, but it feels like the improvements that are made are kind of minimal when compared to the things people ask for here.  I recognize not all of it is doable, like there may be limitations on graphical improvments on HTH, but not having scamble modes, not being able to customize practice... this is just programming stuff, and others have it...

Love the product, and it's very easy to use in comparison to having to use a gaming PC, but it has been a little disappointing the slow speed over the past 6 months or so of responding to people's requests here, and implementing them.

People would be more patient if there was communication, but it's always something like "we've provided this to the product team", without telling us what changes/improvements are being prioritized for the next release.  Not only would that be beneficial for current customers, but ***it would help sell more hardware if the buying public knew that Garmin was extremely responsive to customer requests***.

  • The enhanced courses look nice. New practice settings are great. Hopefully they make it so you can save the on course practice sessions. Played paynes valley to test the fairways and that is still a problem with the ball running to the rough until it stops. Looks like the new rough penalty is only 5% or can be turned off so that offsets that a bit but hopefully it’s still addressed in a later update. Glad to see they are still working on it though. Hopefully we get more updates more often. (Scramble & match play) Fingers crossed

  • Is this an update to the system?  I did not get a notification about HTH improvements.

  • Great to see some momentum again - Thanks Garmin and please keep going!

  • Echo these sentiments. I bought this device so i could host my golf friends over the winter but with a sub par experience, i am haing significant regrets.
