Still Distance Issues with R50??

Just purchased the R50, comparing overall features against the Foresight G3Cs and a GSPro setup. Installed in my massive garage, which has space matching the virtual golf venue that opened here in town. Distance is still a problem.

First 9 holes played and the distances are well short. Driver maxes out at 200 yards when I hit up to 250. Pitching wedge carries no longer than 75 yards when it's reliably 100. This checks out at the Golf venue which uses a UNEEKOR setup and also conflicts with my own course's TrackMan setup. Both another player and I struggle to understand how a 6 iron can't go 130 yards.

Walked through Garmin's tips for lighting, level, elevation, golf ball logo position, confirming stickers (which are brand new because I just bought the unit). Software is up to date, auto updating and last checked today. It's winter here, so there's no issue with sunlight on the cameras (playing in the dark). It's not an indoor swing syndrome issue as we aren't hampered at the indoor venue.

Thinking I am returning this unit if I can't get the distance issue resolved. I didn't want to buy a PC and related mung, and generally like the overall Garmin ecosystem (multi-sport athlete), so I really hope this thing can actually work. Otherwise I think I have to bite the bullet on a PC, another monitor, and GSPro. I will look at threads that ask if GSPro software sorts this out.

  • Read this post to see how I've worked around the distance issue. I have not seen any responses from Garmin on the topic.

  • Same here I as I am also struggling to find out the same. All distances are at least 20~30% off from real life. I might end up returning this one.

  • I purchased an r50 2 months ago, brought it to the range foe a week, hit over 1,600 shots, all tracked by my flightscope gen 2 unit.  The shot distances were off by 4 to 7 yards an iron and 10 to 20 yards on driver, r50 consistently shorter on every club.  On my last day of testing it stopped registering shots,  talked with customer support with them determining the unit was defective and needed to be shipped back. I returned the unit for a refund and proceeded to buy a Foresight quadmax.  I wanted a camera based monitor for an indoor simulator, I didnt want to question my results, ahot after shot and money wasnt the issue.  Garmin has the start of a great product and with time and improvements it will be a great product.   I have suggested they develop the capability to record golf swings integrated through their smartphone app, would represent a distance maker with their competition as they continue to improve the accuracy and reliability of their product.
