I have come to love working on the 3 different target ranges available on the R50. What I have been doing is taking 12 shots to each green, allowing me to really work on ball striking and consistency. What's missing though is any real way to track how I am doing over time. Am I actually getting any better. What this mode really needs is a scoring system that we could look at over time, ideally within the Garmin Golf app.
There are a couple changes that would be need to be made to the three target ranges to make this work :
- The different targets would need to be numbers (1-X where 1 is the closest pin & X is the furthest)
- The ability to specify which pin I am targeting
From there you need a scoring system, or rather two parallel scoring systems. The first is points based on where the ball ends up (lowest score is best) :
- In the hole = -1 point
- 1 putt range = 0 points
- 2 putt range = 1 point
- In the rough or a trap = 2 points
- In the drink or "OOB" = 3 points
The other scori0ng system should pay aggregate feet (or yards) to the pin for all shots. Obviously the lowest score is better here.
