Garmin Family

Hi Garmin team,

I'm currently considering purchasing the Garmin R50 along with a Home Tee Hero subscription and Garmin golf watches for myself and my family (my wife and two kids). Before I make the investment, I want to make sure I fully understand how the system works across multiple users and devices.

I find it a bit confusing that if I buy the R50, pay for the Home Tee Hero subscription, and then also buy a Garmin golf watch, I might need a separate subscription just to unlock all the golf features on the watch. And if my wife and kids want to use the same setup, would they each need their own subscriptions too? That could mean 4 or even 8 separate subscriptions (one for each person and one for each device), which would be a very high yearly cost.

Here are my questions:

1. If I buy the R50 and subscribe to Home Tee Hero under my Garmin account, can my wife and kids (each with their own Garmin Golf accounts and watches) use the R50 and have their shot data synced to their own accounts and watches?

2. Is it possible to play a round together (e.g., 4 players) using the R50, and have each player's shot data automatically saved to their own Garmin Golf account for use in their personal Golf Caddy?

3. If not, is the only way to achieve this by disconnecting and reconnecting the R50 to each player’s phone and Garmin account before every session or even every shot? That seems very impractical for a family round.

4. Is there any plan to allow multi-user syncing in the future, where each player logs in once and the R50 can track and assign shots to the correct user during a shared round?

5. Would it be possible to use one Garmin account (mine) for the Home Tee Hero subscription, but still allow other players to log their data to their own accounts while playing together?

6. Is there a family subscription plan available for Garmin Golf, where multiple users (e.g., 4 family members) can share one subscription and still get full access to features like Home Tee Hero and Golf Caddy on their own watches and accounts? Or will we all need separate subscriptions – 4 x $100 for the watches plus another $100 for Home Tee Hero – or even 8 subscriptions if each device requires its own? That would be a very high yearly cost for a family.

  • Hello,

Here is some additional information per the questions in your post above:

    1. The Garmin Golf Membership account specific and tied to the email address associated with the account. You will be able to access the premium features on the Approach R50 (along with every other user added to the Approach R50 you purchase). Your family members will be able to use the membership on the R50 device directly with separate profiles added to the R50. You then will also be able to use the membership features with your golf watch that is paired and tied to your same Garmin account without having to use a separate membership. Any other golf watches purchased for your family will be paired to a separate account and will not receive the membership benefits specific for watches like green contours, premium maps/PlaysLike Distance (S44 & S50 specific). Depending on the golf watches you purchase, the only membership features your family would not receive from the golf membership on your account, is the Green Contours feature.
    2. You can have up to four players on Home Tee Hero, so your family members will be able to play with you up to four, and each can have their own profile and you can have more than four profiles added to your R50...so friends or other family playing can also come back and select their profile outside of those within your household.
    3. This question is not relevant due to the info above in response 2.
    4. When you power on your Approach R50, the screen prompts a user profile to be selected. Any scorecards from Home Tee Hero or any metrics recorded from practice sessions will be stored and accessible directly on the device that was recorded by that profile. The account tied to the profile will also have the sim rounds and practice sessions stored via cloud to that account. They can then view those sessions through the Garmin Golf app that were recorded on the R50 through their own login credentials on smartphone.
    5. This was answered in the questions above.
    6. We do not have a family membership subscription but the main account on the R50 that is registered to the device with the Garmin Golf membership will allow use for all other profiles added to the R50.
  • Hi Cody,

Thank you so much for your thorough and helpful response to my questions about the Garmin Golf Membership and the Approach R50. I really appreciate the clarity you provided regarding how the membership works across devices and profiles — it made everything much easier to understand.

Your explanation helped me decide on the best setup for my family, and I’m now looking into the right golf watch to pair with my account.

Thanks again for your excellent support!

    Best regards,
