I was a little bummed to find out that the Garmin Golf app does not consider my sim data when it comes to club stats. The R50 is capturing all the data for every single shot so why can't the app use it? The app is already even set up to be able to filter between data type (sim, weekly tournament, range, real golf) so we should be able to isolate what we want to see. Let's be honest, we don't get a sim just to play sim golf; we also get it to get better & this data is invaluable to us.
Full disclosure, I only use Garmin for sim data. I use Arccos for real course data.
The way I see it there are two levels of data being collected by the $50 on every single shot :
- Basic shot data : Carry / Total distance, Club / Ball speed, Spin rate, Apex
- Advanced shot data : All the other metrics like Deviation, Launch / Attack angle, etc
Even being able to just have the carry / total distance would be huge so that we could use that part of the app for while we are playing sim golf.
There is a third level of data that I would call the next level data would be the very meaningful shots gained metrics. I understand this would be much more difficult to implement but having this sort of capability within our sims would extra cool, especially when comparing against our buddies.
