Garmin R50 Frozen on Garmin Screen

I played 9 holes earlier. Turned it off and came back a few hours later and turned it on and it just goes to the black Garmin screen and that’s it. Won’t move past that. What’s the deal?!

  • Pressing and holding the power button soft resets the unit.

  • Did that - when I turn it on it freezes on the Garmin logo again. Tried to connect to Garmin on my Pc but it won’t read it when it’s on the screen. Am I going to have to send it back for repair or replacement?!

  • Disconnect any HDMI cables or power cables. Once the R50 is power on with the Garmin logo screen showing, hold down the button below the touchscreen and select the "Power off" option > Then allow the unit to power off > Wait a minute > Then hold the button again to power back on and it should reboot to the main screen.

You may then see the prompt asking to resume your session from the round you were playing.

If the concern continues, reach out to Garmin Support for assistance further to get the unit working properly.

  • I never get the option to 'power off' it just shuts off once I hold it down for 6 seconds. Never before that 6 seconds do I get an option to 'power off'. I emailed Garmin Support and they got back to me. At this point it looks like it might need repair or something because its been 24 hours now with  this frozen on the screen (and not charging - so the battery is just not dying and I can't tell what the % is because it's never past the Garmin Logo screen).

  • Okay, I am sorry you are experiencing this issue.

Please follow the guidance from Support going forward and they will go over the next steps with you.

    Thank you,
