R50 need all aspect ratio output available in settings

I got the r50 a month ago and reason for getting this over competitors is the portability of it and I have a outdoor sim. So the plan was to plug the r50 in to my projector and be good to go, obviously having a gaming pc outdoors isn't really a good option.

So, as others have mentioned my projector has multiple aspect ratio options but when plugged in to the r50 all aspect ratio settings are locked. My impact screen is 1:1 3mx3m

I've just purchased the benq ah700st in the hope that it will solve my problem but from what I've read here it sounds like I may face the same issue.

Time will tell, but the fact i even had to spend the extra money on a new projector shouldn't be the case as mine has the ratios available when not using the r50.

The r50 needs a update with all aspect ratios available to set to the external display 16:9,16:10,4:3,1:1. People have sims in all these different sizes and having to use a gaming pc to achieve the correct aspect ratio defeats the purpose of why most people are getting this thing in the first place.

It's a easy update so I really hope garmin will get this done asap as if this new projector doesn't work it will be a $11,000 disappointment that can easily be fixed with a software update that should have been thought of in the first place.

Come on garmin, you make a great product thats marketed as a all in one and doesn't require a gaming pc however didn't think about the fact that everyone has different size impact screens?

Anyway, i do have a question, will the benq ah700st achieve the 1:1 using the r50 or will I have the same issue? Any experience guys? Trying to find this out asap so I can cancel my order hopefully if it won't solve the issue.

  • Have you contacted BenQ in reference to other potential display, input, or picture mode settings on the projector model you purchased?

The R50 is extending the display picture in a universal format via HDMI connection display port. The external display being used (which there are many...in all sorts of display mediums and feature sets) that result in the options allowing various customization options for the picture being relayed through the cable from the R50.

Looking at the online user manual for the projector model you mentioned (link to online manual here), there are several settings you have access to on your projector that will allow you to adjust the picture the way you want it displayed from the R50 to the projector. For example, your projector offers the option to customize the focus (page 8), Mode/Picture (page 9), Auto Screen Fit (page 11), Memory - Displays the image memory menu (page 12), Geometry/image correction function (page 15), Zoom - to adjust zoom motor menu (page 19), Screen fill - Displays the aspect ratio selection list (page 20). Those settings should allow you to view the image from the R50 to the projector in the manner you are wanting with the features allowed from that manufacturer.

I will get your account added to the ticket that has already been submitted from users wanting more display format setting control on the Approach R50, and if any new announcements or updates related to this request become available...I will update the main forum thread linked here: Feature request: 4:3 aspect ratio mode for external display. for this topic as anything becomes available.
