Garmin Approce R50 My yardage is off

My yardage is off 20 to 75 yards. I played the course that I play one to two times a week. Drives are off a good 75 yards, 8 iron is off 20 yards. Don't think I am suffering indoor swing syndrome. I changed the elevation to 10,000 feet and the humidity to high, not much difference. I bought the R50 because of my limited indoor room. My Mevo+ would only pick up my short irons. I was told the R50 would work fine as long as I had room to swing a club.Weary

  • How is your lighting?

I got one of those $25 stage spotlights off Amazon and installed it above my hitting strip shining down on the ball and noticed that everything is a bit more accurate now.

  • Thanks, I will give it a try.

  • Indoor swing syndrome can also be a factor if you are swinging in a more confined space vs outdoors or in a larger space.

More info referenceable on the Garmin web page linked here: What is Indoor Swing Syndrome?

The R50 can pick up shots as long as there is space for a swing with ball flight in front of the capture area. Other environmental factors can also affect the swing as another user mentioned on this thread with lighting.

  • Adding a spot light does seem to help. It is a camera system, after all.

  • I thought this might be my issues because I have one of the first units. I have tried with all the lights on and even purchase a small led to help with the light on the ball and it didn't change anything. Exactly the same unfortunately. I have had my sim room for over 3 years and when I tried it in November when I got it drive was carrying 20 to 30 yard further. Had a BLP then and it was spot on with it so I kept the R50. It has gradually got worse over time. For me 6 iron to lob wedge is pretty close. 5 iron to driver all fly about the same yardage.

  • What do see in ball speed, does it increase for 5 iron an driver compared to your 6 iron?

If it increases significant the ball should fly further, if it doesn't increase its to be expected to fly same distance. For both cases it could indicate where the problem is. Either wrong calculation of distance if ball speed increases or wrong measurement of ball speed for 5 iron and up.
