R50 software update to 3.80 issues

i have recently seen a number of posts on social media where R50 owners are having endless issues with the then release 3.80. not registering shot etc seems like the new software is creating more issues than solving issues - is it save to do the update ?

  • Hey, i don't have issues with not registering shots as havent tried HTH, but 3.75 - 1 or 2 odd disconnect from GS pro when the device went to "stand by", yesterday got the 3.8 update. Turning device on was always the sequence of holding button down for 15 seconds to and then hitting again to get it on, few times it took several tries and its been disconnecting like idk what - every 10 shots, IMPOSSIBLE to use and it was working okay, is there a way to downgrade? Should have waited with the update but bug fixes looked so good.

also for whatever reason my computer (Win11) can't find Garmin hotspot, its standing like meter or so away from computer!? Thought to try connecting it via hotspot for time being, but wasnt able to find the device sadly in the regular Wifi panel in Win11, very annoyed

  • When i use Awesome golf at home just having both devices connected to the same wifi ssid works perfectly.. i only need to connect to the R50 Hotspot when taking it to the range and using mobile data on my phone/tablet... or i can connect the R50 to the phone/tablets hotspot... either way works

Can't comment on GS Pro though.

  • Yeah, i mean the issue right now is that im wondering maybe Garmin is having some wifi bugs and hotspot "direct" connection would fix that. I will test out awesome golf later today and see if i get disconnects, but don't remember having issues with it before, although was using it on ipad and hotspot, so different scenario also. Everything was perfect with 3.75 imo :)

  • GSPro's latest update outlines in their changelog mentions a few fixes on their end related to the concern you mentioned with the disconnect occurring during sessions for update version 3.0.3.2 outlined on the GSPro website referenceable in the link here: https://gsprogolf.com/change-log.html

The 3.0.3.2 changelog outlines the following fixes relevant to our products as outlined below:

    • Fixed numerous Garmin bugs.
    • Fixed error message when 3rd party connector software crashes.

Those having concerns with shot detection or shots getting missed when using 3rd party simulators, please check and confirm the software is showing the last public release offered from the e6, GSPro, or Awesome Golf.

Also in-regards to your computer not finding the R50 hotspot (if you have not already)  I recommend ensuring you have the box for "Connect" opened from the main menu > Select GSPro > The Approach R50 will then transition from the being connected to a network, and will broadcast it's own connection for the hotspot to then show as a nearby network to connect from Available networks window on your PC.

You may also consider disconnecting from network you have currently connected to your PC, and then re-visit the Available Networks to refresh the nearby connections displaying.

  • Hello, I reached out to you via direct message through the message icon box in the upper right corner of the site to get some additional information regarding the content you were seeing, so I can get some more context on the issue being described you mentioned seeing online.

I look forward to your reply,

    - Thank you!

  • Hey, didnt get the private message, but no biggy. Anyways regards the changelog from GSPro - the version number has been the same, only thing that changed was R50 version! This said tho, yesterday I managed to have 2-3 hour session with 1 disconnect only over wifi, so id say its quite good again. GSPro didnt update, R50 remained on 3.8.0 - im wondering if it could have been something from Garmin connect side of things? Cause yesterday and today also R50 booted up with touch of a button, two days ago it was a nightmare...
