Fairways Inaccurate HTH: Is there a fix?

I've been loving my R50 but one big gripe I have is when playing Home Tee Hero, fairways can be insanely fast- to the point it leads to very inaccurate results. I've hit so many shots onto the middle of a fairway only to have them roll straight sideways (or even backwards!) and they WILL NOT stop rolling until they eventually hit the rough. On one of my local courses I frequently play, there's a Par 5 where no matter how far left you hit the fairway, the ball will roll all the way across to the right and will not stop until it hits the rough.

Does anyone else have this issue? Is there a possible fix for this?

If anything, I hope Garmin sees this and tries to address the issue.

One additional thing I think can be improved is the roll out in the rough. It seems no matter what course you play, it treats all rough as if it's 3in thick rough at Oak Hill.

  • I've only been using this for a few days, and this was one of the first things I noticed.  The nearby courses I play have slope, but the way the ball rolls on the Garmin is as though they are rolling on a concrete fairway, and never settle until the rough if there is even a modest amount of slope.  It just seems like the fairway grass needs to have more resistance to ball roll.

  • I'm having the same issue with unrealistic fairway roll out on multiple courses. For example, on this week's Home Tee Hero tournament course (Kapalua), The ball frequently rolls from the opposite side of the fairway to the fairway fringe rough. The ball always stops at the border, barely into the rough, but enough to incur a 10% rough penalty on the next shot.

Wade Hampton, Cape Kidnappers, St Andrews (Kansas) - all similar behavior on shots with very minimal side spin.

  • I agree. If Garmin want or need an example of what we’re talking about, this week’s HTH weekly competition course is a perfect example. Give it a try, Garmin.

  • Cody - I have a few examples from my home course.  The physics does not match actual course play.  Holes 3 and 15 are both holes with hills on the right.  A shot to the right side or middle of the fairway on the R50 always rolls down and to the left until it reaches the rough - it doesn't matter where you hit the ball.  In reality, this does not happen and both fairways hold shots once some preliminary roll occurs.  In addition, there are trees located on 3 and 15 that block shots off the tee that do not exist on the actual course.  The course is Bull Valley Golf Club in Woodstock, IL.
