Fairways Inaccurate HTH: Is there a fix?

I've been loving my R50 but one big gripe I have is when playing Home Tee Hero, fairways can be insanely fast- to the point it leads to very inaccurate results. I've hit so many shots onto the middle of a fairway only to have them roll straight sideways (or even backwards!) and they WILL NOT stop rolling until they eventually hit the rough. On one of my local courses I frequently play, there's a Par 5 where no matter how far left you hit the fairway, the ball will roll all the way across to the right and will not stop until it hits the rough.

Does anyone else have this issue? Is there a possible fix for this?

If anything, I hope Garmin sees this and tries to address the issue.

One additional thing I think can be improved is the roll out in the rough. It seems no matter what course you play, it treats all rough as if it's 3in thick rough at Oak Hill.

  • The rollout from the fairway after landing the ball will depend on the angle of the fairway at the actual course. If you are certain that a fairway angle is incorrect compared to the actual course, you can report the issue and Garmin can look further into the concern.

Regarding the bounce or roll into the rough will also vary depending on the spin of the shot, club used and angle the ball is coming from into the rough.

If you have a concern with a specific course map, the course should get reported so it can be looked at further to determine if the map needs to be corrected from a software standpoint.

  • Thank you for the speedy response.

I’ve frequently played several of the courses with this same issue (in HTH) in real life and have never once landed on the uphill side of the fairway only to have the ball take a 90 degree turn and not stop rolling until it hit the rough. Once the ball ceases to have any more forward momentum, it takes a 90deg turn and doesn’t stop rolling as If the fairway is now made of concrete!

You suggested both of the issues I’ve reported have to do with my ball angle and club. In the pictures (I have video too) I took, I used a high lofted club with very high backspin that would stick on any surface.

I do not think the problem is with the slope angle of the fairway (as you suggested) but rather an overall problem with the physics that needs to be addressed.

Similarly, I believe the rough physics have nothing to do with my club chosen and ball angle, but rather that not all first cut rough stops the ball so abruptly.

I can certainly understand the difficulty in mapping and individualizing the conditions of 40,000+ courses but a simpler “solution” would be to allow users to manually adjust the rough and fairways conditions.

  • I see what you mean. It landed and went straight 90 degrees. I haven’t ever seen this happen. Does this happen on different courses?

do you have the “rough only” toggle switch set to on? Just kidding!

  • Yes, it’s happened on 3 different courses so far!
