Is Garmin R50 water resistance and shockproof?

Is Garmin R50 water resistance and shockproof? If R50 is meant for indoor and outdoor, is the unit weatherproof? Also, since there are not protective case available for the unit, will the camera screen be shockproof. will it be able to tolerate a shank directly onto the screen?

  • I think the front cover is pretty tough. It appears to be fairly thick plexi. A driver or 3 wood right off the toe might crack it. It would be difficult to go straight right or left unless you made a practice swing and accidentally hit it off the toe. Little kids might be able to hit it off the toe enough but the ball speed wouldn’t be much. I don’t think they could crack it. It defenitly has shock resistance since it can be used indoors and outdoors.

As far as water proof. No doubt it’s water proof but I don’t like hitting balls in the rain so I won’t even attempt this.

Garmin should do a test on the durability of the cameras front cover and post a video..

  • Totally agree that Garmin should at least do a video on the durability test.

  • Given the position of the unit to the ball, it would be extremely difficult to hit unless you were trying to do so. And even then it’s unlikely.

  • Directly off the very end of the toe is the only way I see this happening. Hosel rocket will send it forward on a 45 degree angle more than likely.

I have seen someone hit the ball off there left heel however. Right handed. You couldn’t do this if you tried!!

  • The Approach R50 is designed to handle brief unintended sprays of water or light rain at most, with the unit being dried off and removed from further water exposure quickly from there per the definition outlined on the iPX3 water rating it can withstand.

Being that the water rating technical specification for the Approach R50 is iPX3 , which is defined as "Water spraying up to 60 degrees from vertical at a pressure of 100kN/m2 for 5 minutes". More info on water rating definitions available for reference in the link here: Water Rating Definitions if needed.

The exterior casing and camera screen is designed to offer protection for the Approach R50 under careful operation, and we recommend to take necessary precautions to avoid impacts to the unit to protect your investment. Necessary precautions like adequate spacing for shot measurement, and ball control within the setup environment you are operating the unit in to avoid damage to the unit from balls, clubs, etc.
