Is distance issue still not fixed?

Just got my R50, I am a 5hcp and play a lot of golf.  My numbers are 10-30 yards too short with the unit compared to real life (pw going 115 when easily 135-145 on course, solid drives going 250 vs 275-290).  Has garmin still not come up with an answer or solution to this?  I have gone through all the tips etc so Garmin Mod please do not post the typical check list.  If this is not resolved, will need to return the unit.

  • LOL!!!

nice couple of catches with the ball bouncing off the screen.

pretty accurate data which reflects what I see on my unit.

Interesting find with the spin numbers above 9k on Garmin range. I will have to check this out on mine.

Before the last update I was seeing more spin axis or I thought I was but haven’t looked back at older Awesome golf data compared to now. I bought the unit right when it dropped and I was hitting big draws. Not so much now.

  • For what it’s worth, I just bought this and started using it yesterday and I too feel like everything is about 15-20 yards short of stock. I’ll continue to see if it’s golfer error, but it just seems off. Software fully updated.

will try different things to see if it straightens out.

  • Compared to Awesome golf software it is shorter.

When I’m on Awesome Golf i can just about call out my distance and be very close.

Not so much on Garmin range. I think they need to adjust this after owning the unit for 5 months. Spin axis is better now but carry is questionable.

Lighting seems to affect this unit a bit too. Someone else mentioned when they took it outside the numbers seemed better than inside at night with the lighting they used.

Yet Awesome Golf for me indoors is really good.

  • Sadly, I have hit probably 200 shots today and every single iron shot is 15-20 yards short of expectations.

i don’t know what to do at this point. I’ve changed lighting, balls, mats, and it’s all the same. I’ve calibrated the alignment and no change.

it makes me sad I spent $5000 to buy a product that doesn’t seem to do its most basic function correctly.

    help!

  • My typical 8 iron carry is 165. I can’t hit a single ball over 145 with a stock swing. Clean contact, and it’s just like hitting a 1989 balata.

Makes me sad. I just want it to work.

  • Others have mentioned Awesome Golf and I recommend the same.  Its numbers see very close to real world results.  And, you can download the complete data set very easily for offline analysis (dispersion, spin, etc).  Yes, it’s another expense but a relatively low one and there’s a lifetime purchase option.  Does require an iPad (ideally with a cheap tripod stand) however.

  • Thanks for the advice. I will try it out.
