Offset the external display

The R50 desperately needs a feature that lets you offset the center point on an external display, allowing you to hit balls from not just into the center of a screen. For example with my setup I only have space to hit into the right half of the screen, meaning I have to aim 30 yards right of the "target" if i want it to go straight, often leading to pulls by trying to aim for the target line on the screen.

This is a feature on GSPro, Trackman & Foresight Sports

And no aiming the garmin at the center of the screen and hitting at the center of it doesn't work because the image on the display is still aimed "straight"

    1. I am concerned my setup is causing misleading data readings. What is the recommended set up in the practice driving range for hitting from an offset position with the current software? Should the user attempt to hit balls towards the center of the screen or straight ahead into the screen, and in each of those cases (center and offset) how should the unit alignment feature be set up?
  • The two options currently available:

    • Practice Mode: You can use the target alignment tool and two golf balls to align the target line to the direction you are hitting the ball into when using practice mode.
    • Home Tee Hero: Users can use the map to change the directional aim point on-screen to estimate any slight offset directionally that may be needed in relation to where you are standing in the room setup, per the adjustment needed for the screen projection.

This is just the recommendation in the meantime while we look further into new options for adjusting the aim point currently in review.

  • The R50 would have no concept of what the center of your screen is, that's why we need offset. The absolute best setup for the R50 is to align the R50 with the spot on the screen you are targeting and also have that be the center of the screen.

I used a cheap laser level to align my offset (in GSPro) with the monitor and the ball. This allows me to keep the monitor at 0 degrees offset and hit towards my aim point in the game.

There is no way to do this in Home Tee Hero so I simply don't use it nor pay for it. I can't help but end up hitting to the left of my target because the graphics are all centered on my screen while my hitting area is offset for clearance reasons.

I tried laying out a putting rug to the target spot on the screen but still end up pulling most shots. I felt this was a bad way to practice and would have a negative impact on my swing outdoors.

So my solution now is to use GSPro which does support offset and not use the built in simulator. I realize this doesn't work for most and a big selling point of the R50 is the built in sim which is why I am so surprised it doesn't have a simple feature like offset.

Additionally, I did buy the R50 for the built in sim. I wanted a quick way to hit a few balls without having to boot up a PC, launch GSPro, etc, etc. But as I said I actually feel this would be bad thing to practice so I just use GSPro 100% of the time.

Hope this helps. I highly recommend aligning with a laser level. The two ball alignment has too much error and that becomes very noticeable, especially when putting. With the laser you measure from the laser line to the left and right side of the R50 and can get mm precision.

  • Please do add this feature.  I have tried shifting the image on the projector to the right so I can aim down the target line but this is clearly a less than perfect fix.

  • I am I pga professional from the uk and I have built a swing room to teach from using the R50 it is a fantastic device however I have had to purchase awesome golf to teach with it. As it is not a massive room I cannot have the hitting line in the middle but because there is no way to offset the aim line I have had to invest in a third party software which when I bought the device I thought it would be all in one and wouldn’t have to buy a pc and software

this feature would be a massive help and would mean I don’t need anywhere near as much setup time and getting disconnected from the R50!every hour when teaching

  • The offset feature is needed.  Please add me to the ticket.  It is disappointing to not be able to use the driving range with my impact screen/projector.  I am forced to log into GS Pro to use the offset feature to have accurate experience with my simulator setup.  In general the Garmin driving/practice range software falls short of expectations adding the offset feature would be a good start.
