R50 Can't Take the Heat

Used the R50 outside in Florida.  High 70's temperature and sunny.  After about an hour, the device refused to see balls placed in the hitting area and the screen was unresponsive.  The screen was hot to the touch.  Took it inside for a while and tried again and it worked as expected.

Seems odd that a device intended for use like this failed in these comfortable conditions.  Even worse, it did it without (unlike, say an iPad or iPhone) a warning.

  • This is horrible news to say the least!

  • The concern you described would not likely be temperature related, based on your use outside described with temperatures ranging in the 70's. If the sun is beaming directly on the display screen, it would not be abnormal to feel more heat on the display vs use indoors relative to direct sunlight shining on the unit.

The behavior you are describing should be addressed with a refresh of the display by tapping the button below the touchscreen to turn the display off, and then tap again to turn back on and the LED indicator should then appear ready to confirm device readiness for shot capture.

If tapping the sleep/wake button on the R50 does not result in the LED shot indicator resuming normal operation, hold the button down and tap the "Shut Down" option > Then power the R50 back on and resume your session and it should work fine going forward.

The operating temperature range for the launch monitor is from -10º to 55ºC (from 14º to 131ºF). If the launch monitor is operated or stored in a temperature above the listed operating temperature, it may overheat and fail to turn on
