Spin rate affecting distance???

I got the R50 5 days ago. I noticed my distances were shorter than normal like a lot of people are complaining about. About 1 club shorter. No big deal, I increased the elevation and got it around what I expected to be hitting. Tonight, I had my buddy come over and play for the first time. We are both about 8 handicaps and very similar in distance. His hits were constantly going way longer than expected. I turned the elevation back down and they were what we expected them to be for him. So we started digging in further. Club speed was close, less than 1mph off on all hits. Ball Speed was also very close. The big difference was spin rate. On the driver, my spin rate was about 4000 to 4500 (I know, not ideal, don't know why it's high right now) and only going 250 yards max, his was 2000 to 2500 and going 275 plus. I know spin affects the distance but I'm always within 5-10 yards of him when we play normally. So my theory is that the calculation of distance is being thrown off with spin. Even on the flight scope trajectory optimizer, it's only a 15 yard difference for 2k spin. I'm curious if others complaining about short distances will have higher spin rates as well. Thoughts?

  • Not just spin but the launch condition for that spin needs to be confirmed. Taking it to the range could really help.

Get Awesome golf when you get a chance. It will show descent angle too and I think the metrics are better calculated.

i have a driving range around the corner which has top tracer bays. Going to take the R50 with me when it warms up and see how the numbers compare.
