R50 won't turn on

It's not too hot, it's not too cold, the battery is not dead (it was 80% last time. I put it in standby a few hours ago) and it's plugged in to power now. There has never been any damage. I have always stored it in its case when not in use. It's never been outside. It's just like that power button isn't doing anything.

  • Working now, not sure if it's charging. Anyone else?

  • Following up, my R50 has not had a repeat of this issue.

  • In my case, my R50 unit starts powering up from off (I see “Garmin” pop up on the screen and then the screen goes black and nothing happens.  If I touch the power button for a few seconds then i get the option to Shut Off the unit or go to Settings.  I was cycling power repeatedly until the unit finally got to the main page.  I have found that if I go into any one of the Settings first, then get out of settings (which takes me back to a blank screen) and then I cycle power it will then start up what seems in a normal matter.  I play daily…and its been doing this every day.  I check for updates daily in Settings (which is how I figured out how to get the unit to start up normally from its initial bad state).  This is frustrating

  • I think I've experienced that before, but not consistently. At the end of each session are you letting the R50 go to sleep after a timeout? Pressing the power button? or are you turning it off completely at the end of each session? And are you still in a range or a round when you turn it off/sleep it, or do you end and go to the menu first?

  • Thanks for the feedback.  Great things to try on my end.

    1.  I am not letting the unit “go to sleep”

    2. I have been pressing the power button for 3 sec to get the unit to give me the option to “Shutdown” or go to sleep”Settings” when I am done playing.

    3.  I have not been “ending sessions” before a shutdown.  I did do this last night so I will test if the unit comes right up to the main screen on start-up and report back.

1/5 UPDATE:   The unit is successfully starting up when I do a complete shutdown (first end session followed by shutting down unit).  If I go back to do a hard reset while in a session (holding power button for 3sec and then pressing Shutdown) it will hangup when restarting. I’ll just be sure to always do the complete shutdown method.  Thx again

  • I have the same issue running the latest version of three firmware 3.30. I‘be found that if you have WiFi enabled this happens on cold restart, or after shutdown. Seems to be a bug, but to workaround, long press the power button when you get the blank screen, go into settings, and toggle your WiFi off/on. The main screen will load immediately after.
