Garmin R50 arrived yesterday. Spent 45 minutes with it on the range.
Prior to owning my R50, I’ve owned GCQUAD (2020 - 2022), GC3 2023, and Full Swing Kit 2024
Pro’s
- Crazy easy to set up and use. Had R50 ready to hit balls five minutes after I took it out of the bag
- Accuracy is 99.9% - first club was Gap Wedge for 65 yard chip shots. 3rd shot was less than 1 foot from the range flag; R50 distance on screen was 64 yards.
- Can quickly switch views, multi view, full screen & Split View.
- Club face recording works well and plays on a loop of current shot
Cons
- No iPad or iPhone support. Realize that is marketed as an advantage, but would be nice for coaches/friends to watch shot performance on another device without having to walk over and look at R50. Also would be easier to review discuss shots from iPad vs R50 display
- The Garmin Golf app captures the round but the design feels rushed and poorly thought out (Full Swing golf’s App is so much better)
- Check out picture below, obviously “Swing Playback” is greyed out but will be future option
Only first time out, but Garmin has crushed it on Price/Value. I believe the cons mentioned above will be addressed in future firmware/software updates. Please Garmin add an iPad app with real time updates.
