I have had the R10 for 2 years now and have experienced ZERO issues. Indoor and outdoor readings have been incredibly accurate. I started as a 27 handicap, and now sit at 16.1 and continuing to shave strokes and mishits because of this app and device. I think many, if not MOST, of the concerns here in this forum have to do with ego and user-error.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think many of the users experiencing issues here are likely high-handicap golfers with no real gauge for actual performance. Just last year, I was hitting a 7i 140-150 yards, on R10 and ranges/courses - which is not ideal for an athletic 35yo 6'4 male, whose friends hit PWs 150yds. And admittedly, it's brutal to feel like your muscling the ball when you really aren't.
It wasn't the Garmin device, or the software... it was me. It was because I sucked - which is why I bought this device in the first place.
I used Garmin's swing metrics ie. club path, attack angle, spin rates, to better understand and fix my swing. I now hit my 7i consistently 180-200yd on R10 sim, range, and actual course. My 150 club is now a 9i. This is a result of changing my swing path from out-to-in to in-to-out (likely culprit for many of the complainers as they probably are not aware of this factor) and changing an open club face to a closed club face where I am now actually compressing the ball.
DO THE RESEARCH, AND WORK ON UNDERSTANDING THE SWING METRICS - NOT JUST YOUR DISTANCE(s). THEN USE THE SWING DATA GARMIN PROVIDES TO UNDERSTAND YOUR SWING. VIDEO RECORD THAT UGLY SWING AND ADJUST IT ACCORDINGLY.
Anyway, it's kind of hard to continue reading and seeing so many people complain about the device and software when it's likely just the user that sucks. And I as well. Get better at golf first, and the results will show - both on R10 sim and the course.
My setup - I use a leveling jig/tripod for the launch monitor set 7' behind ball position on a hitting mat, and a net 8' from ball position in my garage. All data metrics from R10 are compared to and in line with Trackman sessions at my local indoor facility (which I no longer need because the accuracy at home is free).
