Will the R10 work without the tripod?

My tripod accidentally broke and I tried using the R10 with a cell phone clip that was attached to some good that I rigged up. Without the tripod the device won’t calibrate at all so I was wondering if it only works properly with the tripod that came with it?

  • The Tripod accessory is essentially in order for the Approach R10 to operate properly with the angle and height spacing the tripod sets the actual radar unit to.

Replacement tripods for the Approach R10 can be purchased through the Garmin official site through the link to the product page for the tripod below:

  • The tripod definately makes it easier to set up the unit with correct angles in order for it to be within limits for calibration.

But if You are using it in a fixed place only, it should be possible to manage without.

Then You can forget bringing it to the driving range etc, unless You can make something that easily can set up the unit to correct height and tilt.

Height should be fairly easy, the amount of backward tilt not so much.
