Garmin Approach R10 Fails to Connect to PC (E6Golf)

I'm at my wits end with trying to get the my G10 to connect to my PC to use the Desktop version of E6.

No matter what I try every time I try to connect I'll get:  Connection Failed - Please make sure your E6 Connect software is running and check your computer name and port number before trying again.

It take a full 20 seconds before failing when I have everything set up properly and think that it will connect, but if I have something mis-configured it fails out almost instantly.

These are the things I've tried:

1. Tried both my 2.4 and 5.0ghz signals (ensuring both my Iphone 13pro AND laptop are on the same one)

2. Turned Firewall off on my laptop, even tried it off on both private and public network settings

3. Made Firewall rule to allow on port 2483 in on my ATT Router/Modem (Also tried about 10 other ports just in case)

4. Tried a different laptop (windows 10 vs. windows 11) - Did 1 through 3 above

5. Went as far as getting out an old Linksys router and set up a separate network with it, put in the new IP's that DHCP assigned from that router same issue.  I even went as far as to  disabled the firewall in it completely on the router and tried with both laptops, even disconnected the internet and do E6 offline and the same error exists.

I'm fresh out of ideas, I NEED to get this working.

  • The firewall on the router should normally not make any difference. The firewall is normally for wan side, and not local traffic on Your network.

The firewall on Your pc however needs to be turned off or set up to allow incoming traffic on the actual port. Not sure if E6 uses ftp or udp, so allow both (or off to make it easier initially).

On Your mobile device make sure You enter the Ip address of Your PC, not Your mobile units Ip, together with port number. Port number is best to leave default.

    And then it should work.

    Android or ios?

  • As stated in step 2 I disabled my firewall across the board, still doesn’t work.  I assume if my firewall is off all together I should need to make any rules for the g10 right?

And yes I’m using my pc’s IP, verified it with ipconfig as well thinking maybe E6 connect was confused.  And I only see that one IP, not multiples like others online mentioned.

    using IOS.

  • Ok.

Not sure how this works on ios as there I believe You are supposed to download the E6 on the mobile unit itself, which is not an option in Android.

So here ios users may come to rescue.

I play E6 on my wifes ipad connected to a projector. Works fine and not sure why You would involve a pc when using ios.

  • Just a quick follow up.

Are You using the free version of E6 coming with the unit, or purchased one?

If free version I believe it is only applicable for Your IOS unit, and will not work on PC.

  • Try to set the DHCP pool to start from x.x.x.10, and use fixed ip on your pc, eg. x.x.x.5. That is what I did after having some random problems at the beginning. No problems since then. In general bypass dhcp in the setup.

  • If you have not already, check out the How to Connect the Garmin Golf App to E6 Connect on PC article to ensure all general steps for the setup are being followed.

If you are experiencing other connection issues, check the following:

    • The mobile device running the Garmin Golf app needs to be on the same Wi-Fi network as the computer running the E6 Connect software.
    • Be sure that you have the latest version of E6 Connect.
    • Disable your Virtual Private Network (VPN) if you are connected to one.
    • Check for firewalls or other custom configurations which could block the communication.
    • Disable any virtual machines running on the PC.

    Just one quick question:

If You can play the free version of E6 connect on PC using ios, why is this not possible on Android?

I have to borrow my wifes ipad in order to play E6, and believe me, that is a huge step for me hating Apple products/policy in the first place..

I can't remember if the play on pc option came up on the ipad, but believe I found out it would only work if I installed the E6 software directly on the pad itself.

And yes, I still can't understand why I can not use a pc and an android phone in order to use the 5 courses.

  • Main reason being that if I can’t get E6 working on my PC then I will have no way to get the API to work in order to run GSpro.  That’s the end goal.

  • I’ve done all that and/or none of that applies to my situation.

  • There is a new API connecting the R10 to GSPro directly over bluetooth.

So no need for mobile middle device anymore.
