I saw a youtube video stating if I put a couple of tiny pieces of aluminum foil tape on a golf ball it will give a more accurate read from the device.
I was wondering if anyone has tried this and if it works.
Thanks
Edward

The Approach R10 is not designed like other devices for shot capture that require, or advertise enhancement of metrics when reflective tape is attached to a ball.
The Titleist RCT (Radar Capture Technology…
1)if it is italic, is this good thing or bad read. I am bit confused on how you wrote it.?
italics means the unit estimated the number. this is bad compared to non italics where the unit actually calculates…
It should work.
Only one piece though.
The purpose of it is to reflect the radar signal on each ball turn in order for the radar to measure spin. The same way as rct balls.
It will only calculate backspin, spin axix not possible.
You can check if it works by looking at the spin number after a shot. If the number is in italic it is calculated, and if it is measured it will be in regular font.
Hi Odd Tore
Thanks for your response. If you don't mind, can you elaborate on my questions below. I would greatly appreciate it.
Quick question:
1)if it is italic, is this good thing or bad read. I am bit confused on how you wrote it.?
2)How big should the tape be?
3)Is there a certain millimeter tape that works best.
4)When you place the ball down should the tape be facing up at you or facing the net?

2)How big should the tape be?
i used silver foil duct tape from canadian tire. i use one strip on my ball and it's about 2 inches long by 1/8th-1/4 inch wide. some people have used dots, when i did my tests, my unit preferred a single small strip.
3)Is there a certain millimeter tape that works best.
no, any aluminum foil tape should do it. people have tried metallic inks and that did not work. a roll is going to cost you about 10 usd and would last for an awful long time. so you can do some tests when you get one.
4)When you place the ball down should the tape be facing up at you or facing the net?
it works best if the foil is pointing up or towards the screen when you start each shot. i found it didn't make too much difference in my shots where it pointed. just not at your club directly.
good luck with your tests!!
Hi, was wondering if anyone one has tried a Y shape with the foil tape, same as RCT ball?
i tried it with the Y shape like on the ball and with a single strip. to me, the results seemed to be the same.
The Approach R10 is not designed like other devices for shot capture that require, or advertise enhancement of metrics when reflective tape is attached to a ball.
The Titleist RCT (Radar Capture Technology) balls for the Pro V1 and Pro V1X balls feature embedded radar reflective technology and are designed to enhance data capture for indoor conditions, considering the proper recommended placement. The RCT balls look like a normal white Titleist Pro V1/V1X golf ball externally.
The Garmin support page Using a Titleist RCT Ball With the Approach R10 is available for reference as well for more information.
What about using a paint pen? Would that work as well?
i don't think so. some people on the FB R10 forum tried various types of markers and no one had any success. a roll of aluminum tape is cheap, less than 10 dollars and it will last you years and years! i use a strip about 2 inches long and maybe 1/2 an inch wide and get good reads (*ie not italics) about 75-80 percent of the time.
