garmin golf app on PC

I purchased the garmin about a month ago and while the hardware is excellent i must complain about the software.   the garmin golf app is meh, but what is really off putting is the fact that you can only use the hardware through a phone.   That is fine when i'm at the range but when i'm at home i want to have it on my projector and hit into a screen.    So what i've been trying to do is setup an android OS on my PC run the garmin golf app through there instead of on my phone (running it through the phone is stupid).

so here is what i've done so far:

- I have installed virtual box on my pc and installed and android OS version as a VM

- I have installed the garmin golf app and it starts on the android VM, however it cannot recognize the device.   it's a bluetooth problem.   It says that bluetooth is available but it won't start.

so that's where i am right now.   I don't know if anyone else has taken this route, if you have any advice would be appreciated.   I tried running it through an emulator but no emulator supports bluetooth so that's why i went with the virtual machine route thinking that it would recognize the bluetooth, but no luck so far.

After i get this working i will try and do a IOS VM and get those E6 courses available to IOS users.   which i think is idiotic way to do it, i can't believe a big company like garmin can't negotiate a term with E6 to provide the courses to android users when a little company like tittle X can get the courses on the pc no less.....it just baffles me.

So far that is the worst thing about the garmin.   the software available is junk.   who is going to go to a driving range and play home tee hero.....no you would play that on your own simulator setup

  • Tried the same as You on emulator, but as You mentioned no bluetooth available.

Tried vm, but not working for me either.

Even tried android tv, program started and connected to the R10 unit, but failed to launch hth or driving range (hardware requirement not met was the error message). Wonder what hardware requirements needed?

Last thing to try will be android on a memory stick, and boot from that.

Other than that I completely agree that Garmin has a quite long way to go on the sw. They seem to have no idea what users want, and they hardly listen.
