R10 - Driving Range Screen Black & No Video

Just purchased the R10 - all software is updated (latest Garmin golf app and R10 updated)

The R10 seems to work fine for quite a while (we are using the driving range mode and have it setup to record swing videos) and then we encounter the following problem.

Not sure exactly what we do, probably switching screens to look at different stats or watch a video... BUT...

 1. The driving range screen goes black.. we do not see the graphic for the range.
 2- Even though video recording is enabled, it shows a video is recorded but when we try to play it back.. it just shows a black screen
 3. The R10 stops showing all the stats.. we get some stats but not all

After this happens, we try closing / restarting the app, ending the range session and starting a new one, restarting the R10 and even restarting the phone...

BUT - event after reset.. the range screen still comes up black and new videos still show a black screen

The next day when we set it up, everything seems to start working again....

Any help or more information would be appreciated... 

  • Hello, clearing the Bluetooth history between the R10 and the phone typically resolves the issue. That is likely why it is working after setting everything back up again.

    Can you let me know if the issue comes up again, if you have done the Bluetooth clearing and set the connection between the app and the R10 from scratch?

    I have owned the Garmin R10 for about 6 months and have always appreciated how simple the device was to set up and begin getting numbers. As of the last 3 weeks or so, I have been running into the same challenges stated above on this thread. It has not only made the Garmin R10 less enjoyable, but often times useless when I am staring at a blank screen and unable to get any numbers. I have deleted the R10 Bluetooth history and reconnected only to find the same blank screen driving range and inability to capture data. If I remain persistent, eventually I am able to get a driving range to pop up. The setup that was always less than 5 minutes is often times 15 to 30 minutes IF I can get numbers going. 

    *Once I am able to connect and gain data, I find the numbers to be very accurate. I am hopeful for your guidance on how to resolve this issue or an upcoming software update targeted to fix this bug.

  • Rob- just opened my r10 for the first time and am having this same issue. Seems like I’m getting most data except distances but I’m also getting the blank/black screen instead of seeing the driving range. After all the great reviews I read of the r10 I’m hoping I don’t have to return it.

  • Same for me.  Been using the driving range just fine for the most part (yardage off by 20 yards), but recently signed up and paid for home tee hero and some of the courses don’t load at all (freeze on home tee hero logo) or doesn’t make it past hole 3 before freezing on a black screen.  Please advise @garmin-rob 

  • Just bought R10 and opening the Garmin sim goes to black screen. Same as thread. Did a upset cause issues?

  • Same here..............started happening a couple of weeks ago..........very frustrating.

    Tried resetting Bluetooth and now keeps dropping Bluetooth connectivity. 

  • Same problem here, blank screen in driving range mode, and only  half of the stats in the stats screen the other half of stats are blank

    please get this fixed. the R10 is useless if this continues to happend
