Hitting into a net outdoors distances WAY off

Good afternoon... I agree, even with the RCT ball I am finding that I am probably 8/10 yards short or thereabouts with a 7i. I know the radar system picks up more data the longer it sees the ball but it would be nice if this discrepancy between a driving net and outdoor numbers could be worked on and be made to read more consistent.

So those balls will improve net perfomance?

They definitely improve the spin calculation so I assume carry distances would be more accurate

I just bought a box of them.  Will try them out when it stops raining here in NJ

The most likely culprit would be leveling. Have a look at your launch angle and see if it's low. Also RCT balls could help.

Don't forget to set distance from ball to unit in the app. It seems like they put emphasis on their differentiator which shot shape and left/right. They don't seem to be as good as low end radar devices like Yupiteru or swing caddie when it comes to things like carry and clubhead speed. Maybe they will work on these more in the future. SkyTrak or mevo plus provide shot shape but are much more expensive. Rapsodo gives left/right but you have to have a decent iPhone or iPad. This is all into a net. The R10 shines at the driving range. But probably still need to be level.

Do you work for Garmin?  Have you actually used this device to hit into a net?

I dont care about how it does at a driving range. I'm trying to create a practice environment in my backyard, hitting into a net.

I've tried varying and setting the distance from the ball to the unit in the app.  It varies from  6 to 8 feet, but nothing changes how horrible it is at distance estimates. 

I've also tried to increase the distance from the ball to the net to 12 feet.  I spent over $500 bucks for a good quality 25/15 foot net with installation, and moving to12 feet from the ball to the net made no real difference.  Bottom line is this unit doesnt work at all hitting into a net.

I'm going to try with the RCT balls soon, but my bet it is makes no difference.

I have to say the R10 guys need to make some adjustments on short shots into a net environment.  The radar is not capturing enough ball data because it can't track its full flight. This said.. carry distance is still an issue for the R10 or the App in all environments... not sure which. Hopefully Garmin Rob can give us some idea as to when we can expect the next update that addresses this. Still a great unit for the price with improvements expected on a regular basis... fingers crossed for the next update!
