[Feedback] Club Speed more inaccurate after 4.20

I have data to back up some suspicion about club head speed acquisition since V4.20 (end of July release) or at least I believe it is 4.20. It is the one where the change was specifically to "improve" club head speed detection. First of all it is extremely annoying that there is no longer any record of this firmware version release anywhere on the web but I'd rather not waste time on this and just go ahead to show my data.

This is approx 3700 shots of my three of my most used clubs while using the R10 over the last year. You can see a sudden increase in number of bogus club speed readings starting on Jul 28, which I believe should coincide with the 4.20 release.

If you are reading this and have also recalled getting insane club speed readings starting Late July-Early August, you are also experiencing the same issue and I invite you to share your experience and data if possible so this can be fed back to the developers. Something they did to the algorithm seriously made things worse.

  • I have experienced periodic bad CHS readings, also on the very high side. It hasn't made the ball shoot 5,000 yards, so I haven't been too concerned, but if I were trying to export and do averages, I see how that'd be a pretty big problem.

  • Interesting. I have been getting low clubhead speeds at the range and hitting into a net. At first I thought I had just lost the zip, but then realized the smash factors were way high, sometimes well over 1.5. I can assure you I'm not reaching 1.5 with any club ever. My 5 iron CHS stays in the low 80's, but with Yupiteru and ES14 it averages over 90 mph. I just concluded that the Garmin device is focused on left/right hook/slice, with clubhead speed just an afterthought. I have seen low launch angles with the Garmin too, but that was fixed with calibration, leveling (and RCT balls when hitting into a net.) This metric significantly affects carry. When it comes down to it, ball speed is probably the easiest to read and thus the most reliable metric for any radar-based device. I get good agreement for that one across all three of my launch monitors.
