Outdoor Set Up Suggestions?

Just bought the R10 a few days ago, on the range it seems incredibly accurate. Tried using at home on turf with a hitting net (tent style and gosport net). Both set ups show my clubs 30+ yds short on every shot and it seems the apex height is the main number not working (11yd vs 30yds on a 9iron). Tried so many set ups, tape measured perfect distances, leveled Garmin, calibrated, and updated. Anyone successfully using with outdoor net and can give me how they have it set up?

  • I have the exact same story.  My R10 arrived last Friday but my net/mat did not arrive until this week.

I've spent the last week creating a baseline at the outdoor driving range.

Long story short:  When I am setup at home with my outdoor net - all of my shots are short

    Story below.

    _____________________________________________________________________________

My R10  arrived last Friday, I went to the range everyday to create a baseline.  I used the Garmin app, Awesome Golf and E6 to capture baselines.  I also have some data from my friend's Skytrack AND my own measuring.  I also measured pitch shots manually from 30-40 yards.  The outside range use of the R10 was really great but I bought the R10 because I'm very busy and want to hit at home.  I did all of the baseline work because I wanted to make sure that when I set it up at home I would know if there was a "short" problem as I've read....and.....there is....

This week my net/mat arrived so I setup my R10 at home and  am short by the same ballpark amount at the original poster.

Highlights of some of what I've tried to improve R10 accuracy:

    1. Setup as required in the manual & calibrated every use

    2. I've measured - heightened, etc...one change at a time to test

    3. Watched YouTube folks who gave tips on setting up the device accuracy --- my setup all checked out

    4. Tried three different spots on my property AND used the Garmin app, Awesome Golf and E6 to measure (all short -- I also tried the altitude change on E6 as suggested -- it was slightly better but still short)

    5. It's on version 4.0

All my shots are very short.  They nowhere near match my validated data. I don't know what to do other than consider returning it.  I was pumped but my biggest concern  I had buying this device has happened.  I'll continue to test but likely I'm sending it back.  I hate it too because this thing was AWESOME to have at the range.

  • Yup! I may still keep it because it’s awesome on the range. I’ve seen people on YouTube using it successfully on the nets outdoors though so I’m going to experiment with some different nets/set ups. What type of net were you using? I’ve seen the YouTubers with the SPG7 which is super expensive but I wonder if that’s the trick somehow

  • Yep - my net is the Spornia XL and country club mats. (5x5)

What is driving me crazy is I’ve seen those folks on YouTube using it successfully as well.

I plan to do more testing this weekend. I really want this to work at my house.

    Thanks for the note!

  • I’m going to do the same, let me know if you have any luck!

  • Try targeting the net with a mesh like this. I think it would be better if it was black
