garmin R10 not detecting shots from woods and driver

I have had my Approach R10 for a few days now. It seems to work fine with my irons and detects almost every shot. But it detects almost no shots with my hybrids, woods and driver. I would say less that 10%. Even is the shot seems perfect to me (good direction, loft, distance and speed) it doesn't detect it.

I have tried many twigs, like moving the R10 closer or farther away, ensuring there are no objects that could hinder the fire from the R10, but to no avail.

Have other people encountered this too, and what can one do about it?

  • I am having exactly the same issue, off the matt driver reads, I off a tee only 1 out 10.

  • I've been using these tees:https://www.amazon.com/Simulator-Practice-Perfect-Driving-Training/dp/B092CFSXRG/ref=sr_1_12?crid=2PKS0Q1K7LSUY&keywords=golf+mat+tee&qid=1667213759&qu=eyJxc2MiOiI1LjAwIiwicXNhIjoiNC4zMiIsInFzcCI6IjQuMzEifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=golf+mat+tee%2Caps%2C112&sr=8-12

Even though I tied it down with some string, it did fly forward. It was suggested that may cause the R10 not to detect the drive.  I tried the adjustable tee that came with my mat (it's held into the mat & won't fly) & that seemed to solve my problem although I only had time to hit a few balls. I'll experiment more later.

  • I also had moved the R10 back to 7 feet behind the ball.

  • Having now used the R10 for several months, I find it very inconsistent. Most of the time the irons are fine, but woods and driver almost never get measured and the results are very strange. E.g. club head speed is about 10mph less than when measured with my pros flightscope. Sometimes it just stops measuring any of my shots. I always measure it outside on a covered range hitting from a mat, with or without tees. It just seems that the technology is just not working as it should.

  • Having used it for several months now, I just conclude that the R10 doesn't work as promised. Irons are usually fine, but woods and driver rarely get caught. When they do the results are often strange (e.g. speeds on woods 10mph lower then on my pros flightscope). I use it outside on a covered range from a mat with or without tee. I will keep on using its for the irons, but am really disappointed by it and by Garmins support on it.

  • Outside on a range or into a net?

When I use the R10 on a driving range it has never missed a shot, neither irons or woods.

But You need to make sure that the R10 is ready to capture a shot. Wiggling and waggling with the club, or short practise swings just ahead of the full shot will ruin that. Also other in the adjacent bays it will detect and it may not be ready to capture Your shot.

  • Make sure you use real balls as almost balls read shorter than real balls GrinThumbsup

  • Have you figured this out? I am playing in a garage and I can’t for the life of me get a driver to read. Let alone an iron to reach 150yds or higher on the garmin driving range! My distances are 6.5ft r10 to ball, 10ft ball to net. Pictures attached, any help would be appreciated and don’t mind the mess I rushed a setup so I could play as fast as possible this week before I leave on vacation. Have not tested it out on the driving range. But these past couple of days I’ve been using it and my 6 iron regular I can hit like 170-190 and I feel like when I flush a good shot it goes red for a second then goes back to green and doesn’t read. But if I pitching wedge which my regular is like 100-130 it reads it perfectly fine! Any help or answers would be appreciated.

  • I am also using almost balls but literally nothing is reading past 150 which even with almost balls a driver should read past 150 and it never reads if I hit it slow, it reads 100-130

  • I just tried playing 18 holes using GSPro and by the 6th hole it wouldn't read any driver shots.  Up to then, I had to restart the round once, and had 6 shots that weren't read (not just drivers, my 9 iron missed 1).  On the 6th hole when no shots were read, the R10 light was blinking blue.  I gave up at that point which is disappointing.
