garmin R10 not detecting shots from woods and driver

I have had my Approach R10 for a few days now. It seems to work fine with my irons and detects almost every shot. But it detects almost no shots with my hybrids, woods and driver. I would say less that 10%. Even is the shot seems perfect to me (good direction, loft, distance and speed) it doesn't detect it.

I have tried many twigs, like moving the R10 closer or farther away, ensuring there are no objects that could hinder the fire from the R10, but to no avail.

Have other people encountered this too, and what can one do about it?

  • Plz describe your environment. Indoor? Outdoor? Net? Screen? Range?

  • outdoor driving range from a mat. Using iPhone.

  • Exact same issue here. Outdoors at the range, irons seem to be okay but driver is not picking up

  • Hi - this has just started happening to me today. Picks up irons but won't pick up hybrid, 3W or driver. Really quite annoying seeing that I got a new 3 wood today and want to flex it out!!

I haven't changed anything in my hitting area. Played 18 holes last night in the same area with only a handful of shots not picked up.

Have reinstalled the Garmin app. Made sure there are no other devices connected to the R10.

    Anyone found a fix?

  • In my experience, when on range, the only reason why the R10 does not pick up a shot is because someone close is also practsing.

If there is someone next to You, the R10 will detect that persons swing, and will be busy when You try to swing.

In the garden, hitting into a net, the unit struggles with low flying shots, like woods and 4-6 irons. Never seen that on range, so it may be an issue with ball flight not long enough.

  • I fixed my issue this morning. My net was getting a bit saggy at the bottom and drifting forward. I lifted the net up so it was more straight like a screen and that fixed the problem.

  • Ok. Sounds like the distance from tee to net was too short.

Which could be my issue as well.

Maybe the unit requires skightly more distance on lower flight shots as the angle is less?

I think the spec says min 2,4 meters.

I have mine set up in my shop. I have everything setup per garmin specs and it will not read my driver, woods or hybrid. Extremely frustrating. This is hitting into a Carls hitting screen.

  • My indoor garage layout is 9 feet from ball to net, 6 feet from R10 to ball. I'm using the country club mat & the R10 is level & level with the height of the mat. All iron shots are detected & 1 out of 10 driver shots are detected. I'm currently using the almost golf balls.  Samsung Galaxy A20 phone with latest Garmin app software.  Any suggestions? Is Garmin addressing this issue ?

  • I've noticed that if I hit my driver off the mat or a tee with a short back swing , it seems to read every time although there is not much distance.  When I take a full back swing, the shot is not read (or read every once in a while). I do waggle, but wait for the green flashing light before I hit (R10 seems to pick up the slightest waggle with a driver).  I tried raising the R10 to the height of the ball on the tee, but that didn't seem to do much good. I'm using the wide yellow plastic golf mat tees that are on Amazon.
