R10 + Green Contour & HTH

I read on a business wire article that said:

"In addition, Garmin Golf members that purchase an Approach R10 will receive the entertaining Home Tee Hero golf simulator for free and Green Contour data at no extra cost."

Does this mean that the contours and HTH are going to be offered for free to people who own an R10?  Or does this mean that the contour data will be offered in the HTH simulator, for no extra cost?

  • Nothing Garmin?  No response?  Should I send an email instead?

  • Find GarminRob in one of the busy threads, he will reply or respond directly. The "free" offer mentioned for R10 owners includes a 1-month free-trial of HTH (which would include contours now), after which you can cancel or pay the monthly/yearly subscription cost. Well that's at least what I got with my R10 unit back in Aug last year.

  • Thanks, the verbiage stated above made me question it, because it doesn't state 'free trial'.   But alas, you're probably right, just a 'free' trial, kind of expected that was the case

  • It's very misleading I agree, but I doubt Garmin would ever offer that, even though they should, as the quality and reliability of the app for the R10 doesn't justify the subscription price tag after the initial cost of the unit in my opinion.

  • 100% agree.  I don't have a mat or net (my backyard butts up to driving range at my course, so no need for one) so I've never used the simulator.  If I lived elsewhere, where it gets cold, then an indoor sim for winter would possibly make it worth it.

I wish they had different levels of subscription services, or did it ala carte.  Like, you can subscribe to the HTH or E6 sim only, then the green contours separate, etc.  $100 a year for green contours for me doesn't make much sense, especially since I'm dumbfounded they don't have them on the AMOLED EPIX2.  Can probably find those elsewhere for free anyway.

  • I wish I could golf all year round Disappointed I'm up in the frozen north of Canada, so I had high hopes for it's indoor capabilities. If it wasn't for the E6 Connect software with 5 free courses, and the fact that I already owned a newer iPad, I would've returned this unit. Even with the landscape view update (which is terrible!) for HTH on IOS, it's just not worth it for the R10 unit. Truth be told, I'll probably only keep my HTH subscription after the free trial for my Z82 range finder, as I find the green contour addition extremely useful or that specific application.

  • Makes sense.  I'm in Florida, so a stark difference between climates.

Funny, because I bought the R10 just for its launch monitor capabilities, which I'm happy with.  For a $5-600 unit, you can't expect it to be a GCQuad or Trackman

Off topic slightly, but you said you have the Z82 and were able to get the green contours?  I also have a Z82 and signed up for the free trial before my round yesterday and was able to get the contours on the app, but not the Z82.  Do you remember what you did, if anything out of the ordinary, to get them to show up?  I have a separate topic I started asking that question in the Z82 forum

  • Agreed it's not anywhere near as accurate as the more expensive brands (but it's not far off), and I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it is.

What I mean't was if the HTH paid subscription was the only option or I didn't already own an iPad to take advantage of the E6 software and free courses, I would've returned the unit. I was hoping to take advantage of the 40 000 plus courses available on HTH if only the app and software were any good for the R10.

As for the Z82, I followed the steps of deleting any saved golf courses on the app and then all old scorecards in the device folder when connected to my laptop. Then connect to Garmin Express and sync. That worked for me immediately, but I also noticed quite a few courses of mine had yet to be updated with contours or elevation data.

  • Dang, I've tried all of that and still can't get the contours to show up.  I'm guessing Garmins next recommendation would be to hard reset it
