R10 Yardages - What is going on?

Got my R10 and took it to the range and the yardages were fine from what I was expecting.

Me and my brother decided to get a big net and a golf mat to set it up in our garden which would allow us to play after work here in the winter in the UK. Since we have done this, the yardages are just well off… the first time we used it a flushed 7 iron would only got 100 yards and we managed to get it improved but the yardages sometimes are just well off at times at least 10 yards. Sometimes when I even hit my lowest hybrid pure clean it only goes sometimes 140 yards which just makes no sense. At first I just dealt with it but now it’s just getting annoying because there’s no consistency so I’m really just hitting and hoping.

for the record I have the bet 8-9ft from the ball and the Garmin 6-7ft behind the ball and it’s level with the mat just nothing is improving it. Surely they need to sort this out?

  • I had the same problem with my unit was barley able to get 200 yards with my driver and I usually average 250 to 260 yards. With the irons my shots are off by 20 yards. I Played around with the r10 abit and found that putting it 8 feet behind and 8 feet in front  and I also raised it 6 inches higher then the mat I was able to get my drives abit longer by 20 yards and my iron another 5-10 yards still not what I usually hit but a little better then before at least until they fix this issue with the r10.

  • Look at the launch angle and ball speed. If the ball speed is okay but the launch angle it's too low, the R10 might not be on a flat surface.

  • It’s definitely on a flat surface as the stand I have for it has a level installed to show me if it’s tilting or not flat

  • Garmin Rob is taking information from myself and various users on this forum regarding distances anomolies, which he feeds back to the technicians, so they are definitely aware of the issue some of us are having. Hopefully there will be updates soon. If they can revive 'dead' units with the 3.9 updates, I'm sure they can tweek their algorithms, to sort the distance issues, for those of us that need them.

  • Same issue for me.  Bought the unit last week after being on a long waiting list then discovered it’s reading 25-30% short across the bag.  Have tried all the advice from the forums every and variouRageset ups.  All with the same result either indoors or out.  Hugely frustrating as this would be a great unit otherwise.  I’ve resorted to imagining I’m playing a 3 club wind!

  • Same problem - very disappointing . For example : 9 iron normally goes 130 ->  110 on Garmin R10. .. 7iron normally 160 : Garmin 140. 20 yards short on the short irons. Driver also 20 / 30 yards short.  Am hitting into a white net outside -> 8 feet in front of the ball with R10 6 feet behind the ball. This is a consitent problem - what is the fix?

  • Today I I lengthen  my garmin r10 putting it 7 feet behind the tee and approximately 10 feet to the screen and still  irons are 20 yards short and the driver a good 30 to 40 yards short I have a swing speed of 102 to 105 and averaging only 200 to 205 carry. My friend that has an even faster swing speed of 110 mph only carries the ball 215 yards.

  • I find to get the right yards. E6 driving range set Elevation to 1500ft and it’s all good. I have a skytrak as well and when I Compare both r10 is between 10to 20 yards short 95% of the time. But once I set this on e6 they are bang on with skytrak sometimes only 2 yards in difference. R10 needs to have a setting for indoors on the app. So you can change temp/Humidity/sea level like skytrak.

  • Gspro golf also has altitude setting but it hasn't been activated yet that's what they told me over at Gspro. Hopefully they will get that going soon.

  • Yes I think this would help as well. And what else I find using it indoors. It will work better with a brand new ball. Skytrak measures spin and when using a ball for awhile the spin becomes low. And the ball travels further with less spin. But when using a new ball on skytrak  the back spin is spot on with r10. I just think indoors 10 to 12ft is not enough to get a good reading from r10. I also think when you hit off line to the right and draw the ball it don’t show the right shape as what the skytrak does. But the numbers seem ok.

I think this is a great bit of kit and I really enjoy using it. I think a few more updates and everyone will be happy. It took skytrak awhile so I have faith in garmin.
