Best setup tips to get better results.

I just thought I would start a new thread where (hopefully) people can add information to help others setup their R10 in the best way to get the best consisten results.

Distance from ball to screen?

Distance from Ball to R10?

Height and levels?

Does width of the room make a difference?

Personally I have 9ft from ball to screen. 6-7 foot from ball to R10.

The room I play in has a height of 8 foot (can't use driver).

Width of the room is 10 foot.

I do have some stuff on shelves down one side of the room aswell.

I have decent ball data with my setup but I do find my distances short.

My 100% swing goes as far as my normal 80% swing.

I'm not sure if this is due to my room have height of width restrictions with stuff on the shelves and other stuff along the walls. Would this have an affect on the radar?

Hopefully we can get some good suggestions here from people that have used trial and error to get some better results.

  • Here is mine, I feel I am getting pretty good distances with the occasional one that I think is wonky.

    • Ball to screen:10ft
      • Started at 8 then moved to 9 and finally 10. I am now getting longer drives at 10ft BUT I also had serious indoor swing so I need to move back to 8ft and see if the distances fall off.
      • Side note: at 10 you need a top net
    • Ball to R10: 6ish feet
      • I would say I am +- 3 inches from 6ft at most times
      • read online somewhere saying 7ft is actually better so tried that last night not sure it changed much either way.
    • Height: close but not perfect
    • Level: close but not perfect
    • Room width: 20feet
      • 2 car garage and I am in one bay
      • hitting path is about 2ft from bare cinderblock wall
    • Room Height: 9.5 feet to the beams probably a little over 10 to the actual ceiling
    • General area:
    • I have stuff along the wall including:
      • cast iron wood stove
      • gladiator golf club storage rack
      • both are metal

Here are the distances I am seeing:

    • Driver: 210-260
    • 3wood: 180-230
    • 5i: 160-180
    • 6i: 150-170
    • 7i: 140-160
    • 8i: 120-140
    • 9i: 110-120
    • PW: 80-110

As you can see there is a lot of variance in my clubs which accurately reflects real life. I am on a good day a bogey golfer. I have noticed that if I catch my fiberbult mat fat its 100% going to not go as far. The longer distances are the pure strikes.

Two final notes. The garmin app gives very little role out (unless you skull it low), which in my opinion may be why SOME people are interpreting the results as being too short because on the course there is no measuring carry, you only ever see total distance. Also the garmin app has a blanket penalty out of the rough of 10% which in my opinion can be a little high. The rough at my course isn't all that bad and I often see no drop off. On what should have been a 180 yard 5i 10% is 18 yards which puts me at 162. In real life I almost never hit my 5 that short but I am not getting a blanket 10% deduction. This obviously does not apply on the driving range.

  • This is nearly identical to my setup with similar results.  I also agree, the roll distances seem short, sometimes only 1 or 2 yards.  I was super frustrated as well because I always "knew' the distances I was hitting....I think I was wrong, and that was very hard to come to grips with.

  • I will have a similar setup as you.

    • My garage has a very high ceiling and the dimensions are 19 feet wide and 20 feet long (deep).
    • I plan on hitting away from the garage door. I will keep the garage door closed when hitting because if open the door will hang right above my head and my club would hit it.
    • I will be hitting into an indoor net that is 10 feet wide and 7 feet high.
    • I have a shelf on the back wall about 8 or so feet off the ground.
    • I plan on hitting off a 15mm thick mat and will also position the R10 7 feet behind me right next to the garage door.
    • The back of the net will be about 9-10 feet in front of me, as I want to allow a cushion between the net and the wall, so the wall suffers minimal damage.
    • My wife is nervous I will shank one and hit the garage motor lol.  I am less nervous about that and more nervous about balls flying too high and hitting the shelf and above.
    1. Garmin chat told me today that the metal tracks could interfere with the R10.  Have you noticed any interference?
    2. I assume you have only hit real golf balls and not foam ones / ones made for indoor use?  Garmin chat told me I need to use real balls
    3. Any other lessons learned you can share?

Very excited to improve my game this winter.  Now I just need the R10 to come back in stock!

  • Completely agree with your post, as I think those using Garmin App are most concerned with total distance. Carry has been excellent on Garmin App and E6 is where my distance issues are. Most complaints I see on the forum are people saying short. I personally think most people think they hit it further than they do as my complaint (mostly E6) is balls showing further than I hit. Consistent for myself and buddy who has one.

Regarding set up, I think most folks seem to have it in garage like me. If you are in a cold region, you likely have a garage heater as well. When the garage heater runs I see numbers go all over the place and I turn it off and it returns to normal. Also if TV volume too high it seemingly has same effect. Clear space no noise, and no fluorescent lighting above, and I have nothing but high praise for R10 and Garmin App... Just want landscape mode.

  • Hi, I will leave dimensions of room etc for now as mine are bigger. I found a no-reading on a swing frustrating, so I settled on a shorter distance from Garmin to ball (say 6-7ft) and longer distance from ball to net (say > 8+ft) better.

I found Carry Distance to be good but Total Distance shorter than actual. This could be due to many factors and the main course where I am the ground tends to be harder and level so I get better run on the actual course.

Overall, and after doubting it, I think the Garmin is quite accurate. I mainly use the driving range mode to experiment and study all the parameters.

    Very glad I bought it.
