Feature Request: Clubhead MPH without ball impact

Swing speed training is becoming commonplace, but owners of launch monitors must sometimes also buy a PRGR because they want swing speed measured without hitting balls with training sticks.

Could we have a 'swing training mode' where club head speed is measured without a ball being struck?

  • Very poor from Garmin.

I don't see the point in expressing interest in further features, when its clear the community want this feature and its ignored.

I may also move over to Rapsodo when the new MLM is launched.

  • We are actively looking into adding the feature. There are many factors involved when considering, and adding new features, especially features like swing speed without a point of impact at the shot location....As opposed to simply saying, "no".

Thanks for your time, and we hope you stick with us...as we have implemented many new improvements and features to the R10 since it's release, these things just take time!

  • Here are some tips for free:

    - One way is to measure club head speed at bottom of club path. This will be very close to the normal ball strike point +/- a few inches. I don't think club speed will vary much in those few inches, and should be very close to the correct value.

    - Another way is to require a ball placed next to the club path. Then You would get a reference point at ball position (provided that the radar can pick up distance to a stationary object.

    - The genious way would be to graph the club speed throughout the swing, and draw a vertical line at the club bottom. Then the users would get feedback if he/she has an early extension and possibly the club head speed is reducing through impact. Add tempo, and the users suddenly has a useful training tool.

The radar will not be able to pick up a stationary ball.  There needs to be a doppler shift for the radar to be able to distinguish an object.

  • Would love this. Garmin, are you till looking into this?

  • Did this feature get added?  If so I'd buy immediately, it would be useful to use indoor with the stack program, but still amazing at the range.

  • Please provide more details as to the feasibility of this feature, where the engineers are at in terms of investigating, where the enhancement request is in terms of being actioned.

I'm extremely close to selling my R10 and getting another solution as this thread has been stagnant for  a year and swing speed systems like Stacked golf need this feature to work.

  • Exactly, gamin hasn't done any of the "upgrades" people have requested.  I don't think they have any intention to either.

  • I would like to see this added as well.
