Pairing to an iPad

Hi Everyone,

For some reason I can't pair my R10 to my iPad. It's a 6th generation iPad running iOS 14.8.  Is it possible that the R10 can only be paired to one device?  I did pair easily to my iPhone 11 first.  Just to be clear, I do not mean to ask if it can be paired to two devices at the same time.  I simply mean two different devices that it could connect to either at any time.

Thanks,

Danny

  • Yes, the R10 can only be paired to one device at a time. If you have two devices paired to it, you will need to disable the Bluetooth on the device you are not using in order for the R10 to stay connected to the device you are using.

  • I don't mean connected, I mean paired.  I wasn't able to pair the R10 to any other device after initially pairing it to my phone.  I understand that if I were able to pair it to multiple devices, I would have to disconnect the BT connection from the first device to be able to connect to the second one.  The problem is the pairing to the second device.  It doesn't work.

  • Do you have the phone's Bluetooth disabled while pairing to the iPad? As long as there aren't any other Bluetooth devices interfering at the time of trying to pair the R10 to the iPad, it should work.

  • I had this issue and it was due to my old iPad Air 2 running bluetooth *hardware* that was too old for the R10 to register.  My new iPad and phone work perfectly fine.

    How old is this iPad?

  • Hi Rob.  Thanks for quick responses.  Below is what I replied to another post about the same subject.  It's step by step on what I did to try to pair it to a second device and what I've found.

<<<It seems to me that the R10 can only be paired with one device at a time.  I don't mean connected; I mean paired.  I initially paired it with my iphone 11 according to the instructions and it was quick and easy.  I then turned BT off on my iphone 11 and attempted to pair it to my iPad.  It would not connect.  I tried to pair it to my iphone 7 and it still didn't work.  I then tried to pair it to my wife's iphone 11 and it would not connect.  Again, the bluetooth on my iphone 11, which is what I initially successfully paired it to, was turned off completely.

If this is the case, how does one delete a BT pairing to create another one?  I realized pretty quickly that I don't want this paired and connected to my iphone but to my larger screened iPad.  How do you factory reset the R10 or at least reset BT pairings?>>>

  • It's a 6th Gen iPad running iOS 14.8.  Not current but also not old.  It might be 3 years old.  Plus I tried to pair it another iPhone 11 and it wouldn't work.  See my last response below.  Thx!

  • You can remove the Approach R10 in the Bluetooth settings of the phone by selecting the icon there and then selecting "Unpair/Forget". This clears the pairing history. You can then pair the Approach R10 to another device via the Golf app.

    1. From the 3 bars or 3 dot  menu in the app, select Garmin Device > Add Device, and follow the on-screen instructions (you may need to uninstall/reinstall the app to start from scratch).
  • So you’re saying that forgetting the pairing on the iphone clears the pairing on the R10 enabling it to be paired to another device?

  • I can't connect ipad either, having removed R10 from phone and deleted the app on the phone. It would be a disappointment if this does not work with my existing ipad, as that is why I purchased it.

  • Thinking of buying an old iPad to unlock the 6 e6 connect courses (they really need to offer those 6 on PC!).  Is there a certain generation or specific bluetooth technology version I should be looking for?
