I would say just have a level surface you can put it on and somewhat close to the elevation of your mat. My setup is 6 feet from the unit to the ball and about 10-11 feet for the ball to travel and I'm pretty happy. Irons are good distances. Driver maybe 10-15 yards short but I can live with it. Get as much distance from the ball to the net as you can as the more good data the unit has, the better your results should be.
That question was in relation to if someone should wait for Garmin to release a patch because they only had a few more days in the return window. In general, you never should wait for software updates because they're not guaranteed so if you're not currently happy you should return it.
Someone here asked for indoor use feedback and I shared what has worked for me. The manual says 8 feet minimum to the net and I think you need more. Sorry you're not having the same results but there's no need to accuse everyone that says something positive as being a Garmin shill when they're helping other users.
