In the Garmin R10 Facebook group there are many owners who play in the garage and have interference from fans, LED lights, transformers and other electrical devices
I would love the answer to this question.
I was hitting in garage and it was extremely hot and found the flashing Green light would change to red constantly while I had a fan running behind me... so I…
oh that's what I should be doing... great idea, I'll ask everyone at the driving range to turn off their bluetooth, wifi, and cell data so I can get the Garmin R10 to work
If you’ve got it to work just curious what you did? Some people were saying I might have to make a faraday box to stop electrical interference
Just curious if that worked for you? I’ve also heard that you may have to make a faraday box to cover your fan or heater or AC to stop any EMF interference
The R10 is designed to work without additional accessories, but it would be interesting to see a discussion further on how others have eliminated environmental factors from affecting the R10 with their indoor setups.
In terms of a faraday cage...typically full enclosure is required to provide EMF protection just in the general sense of the basic purpose those are used for.
Since the face of the R10 send signals from three different radars with the signal expanding further outward...a structure around the unit like a faraday cage may affect the signals from tracking properly.
Of course You should not build a Faraday cage around Your R10 unit.
That would make it useless.
Faraday cages are for other interfering units, and has been working on projectors. I have mine behind me, above the R10, and has no issues with this.
Regarding heaters, I don't think the issue is related to electromagnetic interference, or reflections from the units.
Microwave signals in general are sensitive to temperature layers / temperature changes, and with the high frequency these radars operate in, I would not be surprised if changes in temperature affects the performance.
Solution: Leave hesters off while playing in order to have a stable or slow changing temperature in the room.
I never mentioned putting a faraday cage around the Garmin R10 unit. I would definitely think that would interfere with readings. I only mentioned putting it around the fan it’s self if you used metal fly screen for instance it should still allow air to flow through but possibly cut down on any EMF interference. Similar to the way it does with projectors.
The spacing of the projector should be adjusted vertically, forward or backward to adjust the position of the light cone, away from the radar signal coming from the face of the R10.
This could mean mounting the projector to the ceiling, or positioning the projector image away from the screen balls are being hit into, like into another wall direction to view play animation and other data.
