Is Garmin Support always this terrible?

Over six months ago, I posted an issue about a scorecard bug when recording more than one players score, and despite others reporting the same problem, nothing has been done to rectify the issue.

As golf across the world resumes after each countries respective lockdowns, due to social distancing guidelines, paper scorecards are mainly not being used by golfers, so to have the ability to record both my score and my playing partners would be REALLY helpful at the moment. But as has been previously reported, when recording more than one golfers score, the users stats for the round aren't synced with the Garmin Golf app, so PLEASE Garmin, get this sorted.

The last software update was August 2019, and users must be well overdue another one, so come on Garmin, sort this out!!!!

Same applies to the option to re-map the radar button during a round of golf, and it would be great to ether have the option to re-map it so as it pulls up the scorecard, or alternatively, record the shot distance.

  • It is my understanding what you have described is not a bug. Your Approach G80 is only responsible for your score and that is what gets synced to your very own Garmin Connect account that is part of you buying our product. You have the ability to record the scores of those without a GPS device but if they want to keep their scores, they can use the Golf APP free on their smartphone and have their own scorecard history without even owning a Garmin Golf Product.

  • I'm sorry Chris, but I have to disagree. When I first reported this to Garmin, I was asked to send screenshots of the problem, and after the issue was escalated it was confirmed that it was a bug.

When recording just my own score, after syncing to Garmin Golf, stats for the entire round (fairways hit, putts and my score per hole) are recorded for posterity as it should be. So why, when I add a playing partner - and keep in mind I can add an extra three players - does all of my stats not sync?

I'm not concerned about recording playing partners scores - they are merely for their information at the end of a round - but all of my stats should still be synced in full as if I was recording only my own score.

Also, a few users have suggested allowing the radar button to be re-mapped during a round, as it's pointless - and during a competition illegal - to use the radar function anyway. It would be far more useable to ether re-map it to bring up the scorecard or record shot distance.

Again, these suggestions have been posted but Garmin never seems to do anything. The G80 is a great device, but it could be so much better if the support and development team continued with updates. It's been nine months now since the last update, and the issues above - both of which are software issues - could and should be easily rectified.

Chris, I am facing the same issue as described above. If the G80 gives you the option to track scores and stats for up to 4 people then why doesn't this sync to the app upon completion?

  • Thank you for reaching out regarding the issue. I am sending you a Private Message to gather more information.

  • This problem has been going on for over a year now and no fix has been made. I personally this it is a disgrace, this is a high end product and for it no to be able to add scores correctly is not acceptable. I was recording the scores for our fourball and when synced to my phone, not one of the scores was correct. A free app can cope with this, but a £450 device cannot. Clearly Garmin do not care as they would have fixed it in an instant. Absolutely terrible customer service
