Course update frequency

We are a long-time Garmin family ... with numerous running/fitness/lifestyle watches enjoyed by all of us. I need to upgrade my golf watch and would love to get a S70 ... but instead I am considering switching to a completely different brand.

Why?  Because Garmin's course update policy makes their watches only useful some of the time.

I have been told that Garmin provides course updates 'periodically' (3 times per year), in spring, summer and autumn. Not very good for those of us in the southern hemisphere who golf year-round (including all through the North American winter!). Why would I want to wait 6 months until the North American spring?

The value of a golf watch resides in the accuracy of the course information. Our course was updated more than 3 months ago ... and I am still waiting for Garmin to reflect the changes. Quite disappointing.

My question: when will Garmin increase the frequency of its course updates??

  • Updates to course mapping released throughout the year are not limited or set to 3, or any other specific number. Updates are released in bundles per reports of corrections needed, .

As corrections have been made to the mapping, the updates to the golf course mapping is released for users to install. Since all users receive the prompt to update, they are released in bundles containing many courses that had a change to the mapping.

Your post does not mention the name of the course you are referring to, so I am unable to look further into any details on the map for the course you are referring to on our end.

If the course you are playing was renovated or updated a few months ago, the method of notifying Garmin of change would need to be submitted through the Golf Course Report form available on the site through the link here: https://www.garmin.com/forms/golfcourses/

Anyone can fill out the report form to notify Garmin of the changes needing updated, and the information provided simply needs to provide general information about the course, and a brief summary of the changes that were made. Once the report is submitted, Garmin then begins the process of verifying through official sources for the course to implement any corrections needing to be made.

All users that submit a report for a course will be notified via email once the update containing the corrections for the course they reported is available to install. So all users awaiting the update to the course mapping should submit the form in order to be notified the update is available containing the correction.

  • Thanks Cody. Unfortunately, my golf mate and I seem to be receiving conflicting information from Garmin US and Garmin Australia re: frequency of updates. We have also received less than inspiring responses to the course report forms we have each previously submitted. We would really be keen to better understand the situation, including whether or not our course has met their obligations in providing Garmin with the required update information. (They tell us they have.) The course is North Ryde GC. NSW. Australia.

  • The course update for North Ryde has been addressed already. This has been discussed on a previous post linked here for context: https://forums.garmin.com/apps-software/mobile-apps-web/f/garmin-golf-ios/381820/a-local-golf-course-map-north-ryde-golf-club-nsw-australia-has-map-errors#pifragment-1286=2

The update for the course with the corrections will be reflected on your device once you install the course map updates through Garmin Express on a home computer.

Just to clarify on course map update frequency, there is no set scheduled amount of course map updates released throughout the year. They are not pre-scheduled, and are released on an as-needed basis per the corrections reported.
