Forerunner v Edge 840 FIT file

I have written C# code using the SDK 21.126 to successfully decode the 955 19.18 fit file for the cycling activity. The same code does not work for the Edge 840 21.18 fit file. Messages for the heartrate time in zone and power time in zone do not seem to be recognized. Do these two FIT files have different formats?

You might be seeing a difference in what each device records to the file. FIT is a flexible binary format (the F in FIT stands for Flexible) and allows for different messages to be written to the file based on the application. But I am pretty sure that the 955 and 840 both write time_in_zone messages.

Try decoding both files with the FIT CSV Tool and see if the time_in_zones messages are in each file. That would help rule out the files being the same or different.

Also take a look at the Decoding Activity Files recipe in the cook book. If you follow the pattern in the example code you should be able to decode time_in_zone messages.

I figured it out. It had to do with the number of power zones I was capturing. All good.
