GPSMAP 67 pause activity and Strava

Hello, I've a question on activities that have a pause in them and how these show up on Strava. Situation: At the start of a hike I start activity recording on my GPSMAP 67. After some time I stop the activity recording. Then after I short while I start activity recording again. After finishing the hike I stop the recording and save it. This results in a single activity FIT file. When this FIT file is uploaded to Strava (via Garmin Connect), the Strava activity contains only the first part of the hike.

When I look at the contents of the FIT file with fitfileviewer.com, I see three Event messages:

* a timer event with type "start" when recording was started

* a timer event with type "stop all" when recording was stopped the first time

* a second timer even with type "stop all" when the activity was saved

It seems that Strava only processes up to the first event with type "stop all".

Is this how a pause should be represented in the FIT file? I would expect a second timer event with type "start" when the recording was resumed. Or is this just how the GPSMAP 67 works, as it has no option to manually pause a recording.

At the surface it seems like there is a missing start event. I suggest posting your question to the GPSMAP 67 forum. There may be other users there that have experienced a similar issue. There are also moderators in that forum who are familiar with the GPSMAP 67 that may be able to answer your question.

Were you able to solve this problem? Strava is simply showing only a part of my ride while Garmin Connect shows the entire ride.

Garmin Support has confirmed to me that this is indeed an issue, and that an upcoming device software update will include a fix.

Would you know if this is an issue with hiking too or just biking? I didn't hike/walk with the device yet.

I have only done hiking activities on my GPSMAP 67, so I did not verify other activities. But based on my observations on what causes the issue I expect that the issue occurs with all activities recorded on the GPSMAP 67 series.

How is this still not resolved after an year in production. I always thought a lot of users upload Activities from Garmin to Strava.

Another interesting thing I observed today is that only Strava doesn't work. Komoot works all right.

Considering this, could this be an issue on Stravas's side?

My guess is that other platforms import the activity data in a different way. All the activity data is present, it's just that the start/stop events of the timer are not registered fully on the GPSMAP 67.

I compared the FIT activity data of my GPSMAP 67 with that of my Edge 1040, and the Edge 1040 correctly registers a resume activity recording event in the FIT data while the GPSMAP 67 does not. So that seems a plausible cause for Strava not showing the complete activity.

FWIW, I called up Garmin today and they confirmed that this is a known issue and have a ticket tracking this. Realistically we can expect a month for this to be resolved.
