Grade not recorded in a FIT created by Garmin devices

The FIT profile includes a field for "grade" in the Record message but when I look at files created with various Garmin devices it appears that grade is never written to this field. Does anyone know why?

Grade was in the first batch of fields that were added to the SDK, before anyone was even using the SDK. It may have been added as a what's possible versus being an actual requirement at the time. The FIT…

Grade was in the first batch of fields that were added to the SDK, before anyone was even using the SDK. It may have been added as a what's possible versus being an actual requirement at the time. The FIT SDK is used by more than just Garmin, and I have seen other manufacturers use it.

Thanks Ben! Some context on the question: I'm calculating Grade Adjusted Pace but obviously need grade for that. I'll just calculate grade using altitude and distance. Do you know if there are any plans to add GAP to FIT? Seems like it's becoming a popular running metric.
