FITCSVTool 21.94 Release - totals.fit transfer from Edge 1030 to Edge 1040 Solar fails

I have been a loyal Garmin customer for over 10 years, starting from hiking and MTB with GPSmap60 to running and triathlon. Now I just got a new Edge 1040 Solar and would like to transfer the KM driven from my Edge 1030. With the FITCSVTool from the SDK I can create a CSV. I can then also adjust the CSV and also see the correct values displayed via the FitFileExplorer. I then delete on the Edge 1040 Solar the contents of the folder Totals with the file Totals.fit and copy the new modified Totals.fit in the folder Newfiles. After the restart, however, the old unchanged values of the Edge 1040 Solar appear.
I am somewhat at a loss as to what I am doing wrong and how I can transfer the totals odometer readings. I can also attach the fitfiles here.

I appreciate any tips on how I get the problem solved.

Many greetings Ralf

  • Hi ,

did you manage to get this solved, please?

  • Unfortunately not – the problem could probably be solved relatively easily by Garmin, but there was no support and with the freeware tools I could edit the file but the format for the Edge 1040 solar is apparently different in a few small ways.

  • Adding to the OP, on * Nov the sync issues forced me to resign in connect. When I did that it wanted me to read the 1040. Guess what? It over-wrote my totals, nearly doubling, in some cases. As if a mix between resyncing and import

  • If you are able to elaborate sure but…it is a complete bug that myself and technical support recreated during a last call. Specifically after partial pairing and no sync, if reinstalling the Connect app and not even adding a new device (we bypassed that), after the device is recognized suddenly it keeps adding totals to the For file and the device. It keeps fixating on installing all rides since Sep and doubling them as totals. The Garmin support agent explained that via Unified data the cloud pushes and syncs but is not supposed to double ride totals. Each time we tried it kept doing it. We took screenshots of the device adding totals by the thousands of kms and it is with the engineers. Assuming there is a corrupt fit file it has to be on the cloud. Or the Connect partially recognizes the edge and keeps adding upon itself. I would like to know how to format a .fit file however.

we even did a Garmin reset and kept settings but again it keeps adding crazy totals after it syncs. Horrible Applications features web what I need is GEAR TRACKING.

  • I would like to know how to format a .fit file however.

If you want to adjust the totals.file, there are 3rd party tools that can do it, such as Fit File Repair Tool, as mentioned here - Set odometer on my new Edge 1030 plus to match this year's mileage

Or zip and attach the totals.fit file here and someone might be able to fix it for you.

Also, johnwood's post above is just spam, which has since been removed by a group moderator.

  • TOTALS.zipThere it is. Note that I tried again with software 25 installed, then reinstalled Garmin Connect. I also had 25 activities left in the History (as seen on the Edge 1040). After reinstalling Connect, and repairing, Skip and added my known device, Iit synced over 5 min. It shot up Total rides to 46 and mileage from 62.4/0/62.6 for 3 profiles to 820/0/92.9. Another bizarre thing, the new Connect App started showing Chinese characters after reinstallation, when going through Device etc. Presently, heavy winter, no training totals will reset at 0 anyway, got my mileage added on a separate excel. But man am I curious, is this a Unified merger (a Garmin server issue) or something with my .fit file? Why does it do this after an App reinstall and pairing?

  • This is what I'm seeing for your Totals.fit file in Fit File Repair Tool.

If you can tell me what you want it to be, I will make the adjustment and attach it to this thread. Then you would unzip it and place the file in the Newfiles folder on your Edge and restart.

  • There has to be some error as I see 0 , and my totals were over written several times when I reinstalled Garmin Connect and repaired . Those figures are correct but I never see them on my device. I may see 100 then 50 then 46 rides of the 177 you mention.

edge 1040, not 1030. Yesterday we recreated the issue again, repaired and the totals went up when syncing. I had Reset my totals to 0 but after reinstalling the app and syncing  t her three activity profiles changed to 820/0/92

I reset my values for 2025 to 0 but the numbers go up  on my 1040 as I re-pair the phone with with an updated version on Garmin Connect.
