Golf data

Hi

I have a couple of corrupted .FIT files that are used to track my golf scoring data (round scores, gps shot data etc). I have had some partial success recovering the data with help from someone on this site but he exhausted all of his know-how and pointed me to this forum to see if there was someone who could possibly help fully restore the files for me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • I looked at a few of the golf files that were posted. The files are not corrupt, at least in the sense that the contents of the files can be read using the FIT CSV Tool. The issue is that the score card files in question are lacking data, and that is not something that can be fixed. In one of the threads on this topic, someone from the community posted similar findings.

The files that can typically be fixed are activity files. Things like running, cycling, walking, etc. Activity files contain time-series data, where there could be one data sample per second written to the file. If you go for a 10k run and the binary file gets corrupted, then the fix is usually to recover the data up to point where the file is corrupted. The fix is not to estimate data to reconstruct the full 10k. Activity files and golf score card files are apples and oranges when it comes to fixing them.

If you have not already done so, I would report these issues to the support team. If these are known issues, then the support team may have a solution or work around. If there is not currently a solution, then it is helpful to have additional data points that may help lead to a solution.

  • Everything related to databases and recovery of damaged or lost data is a very difficult issue. I recommend you read the 3-2-1 backup rule to get an understanding of how it all works and works.
