I have felt a bit like Robinson Crusoe over the past yer or so as I have muddled my way through this often confusing space.
I would very much like to connect with similarly oriented developers, so here's my area of interest.
raceQs is a watch app specifically for enthusiastic sailboat racers, on anything from a wind surfer, cat or centreboard, to a 45' racing yacht. (Any bigger and you would already have an array of expensive navigation and tactical aids.)
Health API is used to retrieve the FIT/Activity files in order to seamlessly import them into raceQs 3D replay
As such, we are not in any way involved in gathering personal health metrics, and only use the "Activity Files" endpoint.
I have had to work very hard to customise the FIT messages in ConnectIQ SDK to capture "events" such as race start time, starting line position and mark roundings.
I have lots of issues with the way Garmin Connect contravenes the published syntax of the Activity file and am concerned that I may be relying on fragile features. My many questions to Garmin Connect team on the subject have not met with much success.
