BMW Navigator V & VI does not function with any USB 3.0 device

BMW Navigator V & VI does not function with any USB 3.0 device, only with USB 2.0. Will Garmin fix this? It has been a problem for the past few years. I have posted this on several forums and have received similar complaints from others. I use a Dell 5510, the only way for me to connect either Nav V or Nav VI is to first connect a Thunderbolt with stepped down USB 2.0 ports. Pardon my English on this German site, but as I have posted this on numerous US sites, there seems to be no one at Garmin who is interested in addressing.

USB 3 should not be an issue. I have a Zumo 590 ( similar to BMW Navigator 5) and it works fine with USB 3.

I think the problem is probably located on your Computer. Are that Garmin USB driver correctly installed?

Thank you for your reply, I have looked and there are no drivers I can find, and when I reached out to Garmin, this was a while ago, and they said there are no drivers for the Navigator products, maybe there are though? that would be great? Or could it be that only certain computers with USB 3 have issue? Good thoughts.

Wait, my mistake, since then, I had been pointed to use the Garmin Express tool to update drivers, so i suppose, yes, i have been doing that regularaly, so if there are drivers, the Garmin Express i imagine would be taking care of that?

If you install BaseCamp and Garmin Express then you will get the drivers for USB installed automatically.

Yes Basecamp is what I use, pretty regularly too. So both seem to do their job, problem is I still can't get Nav VI to connect when i plug the USB into the 3.0, go figure.

Hm, have a look at the installed programs. The drivers should be listed there.

Hm is right, I don't see anything in Installed Programs or Devices or Services indicating any nav or garmin drivers installed or running, i wonder could that be the problem, other may also be having this problem i suspect. i will keep looking. thanks for the advice.

I see it now, i do have that installed, thank you, didn't realize it was at the bottom. So, then there must be something else going on, I can connect fine when i hook up through Dell's thunderbolt, but not when i plug the Nav directly into the laptop's usb 3.0, very strange.

Yes that’s very strange. Sometimes it helps to wait for 2 to 5 min when the unit is plugged into USB 3 to recognize the Navigator.
