Garmin Messenger from my phone number

When I send a message using messenger, the recipient receives it from my cell phone number, not from a random number or my inreach address like they do from other people.  Is this a new update, or did I set something up wrong?

    Did you send the message while in reach of a cellular of Wi-Fi connection? Afaik the random number occurs when the message is sent through the satellite network.

    I wasn’t. It has happened with every person I have sent messages to, even sending them Inreach to Inreach. When both the recipient and I are well away from any cell or WiFi coverage.

    This is expected behavior. When messages are sent from the Garmin Messenger app (with your phone number verified), the messages will be received as having come from you rather than from an apparently random phone number.
