Can I use Earthmate only without Garmin messenger with my inreach mini 2?

I already have Earthmate. Can I just use that with my new inreach mini 2?

The inReach Mini 2 is not compatible with the Earthmate app. You can use it with the Garmin Messenger app and/or the Garmin Explore app. Benefits of using both apps can be found here: Comparing the Garmin…

This is incorrect. The inReach Mini 2 is compatible with the Garmin Messenger and Garmin Explore apps, but it is not compatible with Earthmate.
