Golf App version 3.7.0.1 maps are appalling.

The golf maps now used with the Golf App version 3.7.0.1 are appalling. Far too many trees right hand map and the definition is extremely poor. Fortunately I still have the old version on another device which are near perfect so fingers crossed I can protect it from being updated. Please can Garmin roll back to the original maps used in version 3.5.0.1b

  • Let's get your feedback heard by the appropriate team for consideration,  . Please use this link to send in your feedback/idea on keeping the older style: https://garmin.com/ideas

  • Not pictured in the ill-conceived redesign is the directional pad for map navigation. Does Garmin not realize that putting a directional pad on a touch screen is fully redundant? There's a well-established gesture model for map interaction that has existed on multi-touch devices for decades and its on the map already! Why the d pad?!

On top of the step back in design, the maps also just don't work sometimes! Garmin has decades of mapping experience, but somehow cannot make an app with maps that work.

  • My maps look way worse than that. The map is just black with a dark green blob now.

    • Is there a way to go back to the old version?  Mine looks like crap
  • To remedy the situation until another update comes out simply click on the map layers and then on Course View in the lower left. I hope that works for you.

Edit:I ended up down grading to v3.6.1.2 as I experienced other issues the more I used v3.7.x - like Holes showing 0 for Par, freezing and other annoyances. Did try reinstalling v3.7.x first to no avail.

  • I completely agree. The older map style was much cleaner and easier to read during a round. Since the recent updates, the extra tree coverage, darker colors, and lower contrast make it harder to quickly judge hole layouts and landing areas. Several other users seem to be reporting similar issues, including black or heavily distorted shot maps, slow loading times, and general map rendering problems after versions 3.6.x and 3.7.x.

One temporary workaround that helped some users is opening the map layers and switching to Course View, which sometimes restores a more usable display. Others have had partial success by deleting and re-downloading course data or reinstalling the app, although the fixes don't appear to be permanent for everyone.

Garmin should seriously consider adding an option to choose between the new and legacy map styles. A lot of golfers prefer clarity and readability over extra visual details, especially when checking distances or reviewing shot maps during a round. Based on the growing number of reports across the Garmin forums, this doesn't seem like an isolated issue.
