Course handicap max 50. Why?!

It is impossible to input a course handicap higher then 50.
Why this number? As the max handicap is 54, and on my course handicap above 36 from the white tees get 50 to max 73 shots!!!!!

no explanation found anywhere on the website or on the forum. Found 2 treads asking the same question years ago without any answer.

what is even the point of inputting a course handicap if you can input your own….

  • The highest handicap possible in the Garmin Golf handicap calculation is 54 and the lowest is -10

You can find all of the information regarding our handicap FAQ outlined through the Garmin Support page linked here: Garmin Golf App Handicap Frequently Asked Questions

You should check your Golf Activity settings on the watch to see if you have handicap scoring enabled in the Score section, as you may have a handicap entered in that section if handicap scoring is enabled on your watch.

  • Even when entering a personal handicap of 54 on the watch and then syncing, the maximum course handicap that can be entered is 50. This means Stableford points are incorrectly calculated when a player receives more than 50 extra strokes based on 18 holes.

This problem is even worse when playing 9 holes. Dutch golf clubs provide the course handicap based on the holes played (first 9, second 9, or full 18). When playing 9 holes, the system gives you the handicap for those 9 holes.
When entering the score into the Garmin Golf app, it seems to always assume 18 holes, even if you played 9. This means you have to try out different course handicaps to find the one leading to the correct number of Stableford points on the 9 holes played. Depending on your personal handicap and the 9 holes played, combined with the course handicap limit of 50 (why?), sometimes even setting it to 50 leads to too few Stableford points.

Why is this so hard? I know the number of extra strokes provided by the golf club, I know my number of actual strokes, I know my Stableford points, and still I can't get the Golf app to show the correct score.

  • I recommend contacting the Garmin Europe office to provide more info on your concern with Stableford scoring so they can get some additional details from your account to review the info above further.
